Royal Blackheath Golf Club
Instituted in 1608 Royal Blackheath Golf Club is a friendly private members club with a proud history stretching back over 400 years. Our classic, natural 18 hole parkland course boasts excellent fairways, subtle and true greens together with strategic bunkering that enhances the original James Braid design.

It is a true challenge for the experienced and social golfer alike and our magnificent 17th century Clubhouse - with stunning views across the course - is the perfect place to relax after a game. Situated in a tranquil corner of South East London, Royal Blackheath is just 9 miles from the City of London and is situated near historic Greenwich - home of the National Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory and the Cutty Sark.
Services
Our magnificent Clubhouse was built in 1664 for John Shaw, banker to King Charles I, no expense was spared in its construction and we are fortunate that many of the splendid original features remain, including its elegant staircase, ornate ceilings and imposing fireplaces. Known as Eltham Lodge dating back to Tudor times when a previous building stood in the grounds to the magnificent Eltham Palace just 800 yards away.
The year is 1603. Queen Elizabeth I is dead and the Scottish King, James VI has ascended the throne as James I of England and Ireland, taking up residence at Greenwich Palace in London. As the predominantly Scottish court began to settle into life in London, its nobles wasted no time in searching for somewhere to play their beloved game - an exotic sport of which few outside Scotland had ever heard - golf.
As might be expected of a club with as long and as prestigious a heritage as Royal Blackheath, we are able to evidence our standing in the history of this royal and ancient game with an array of trophies and medals which is widely regarded as unparalleled in the world of golf. Originally the Gold Medal of the Knuckle Club, this is the oldest medal in the world, having been struck in 1789 and first competed for in 1792.
Before Royal Blackheath moved to Eltham, we had occupied a number of Clubhouses at different locations around Blackheath. Eltham land at pepper-corn rent with permission to build a new brick-built Lodge on it as his Residence. The Lodge is unique and is the forerunner for the later Georgian brick-built Gentlemen's houses.

I don’t normally do reviews but this is a must to warn others.
Visited here on 3rd December after wasn’t able to book Shooter Hills
Service: 1/10 - kitchen closes at 5pm but we weren’t “allowed” to be served food at 4pm. Bar staff is very grumpy and feel a sense of racism here. No idea what we did wrong
Golf course:
4/10 - you can find range balls everywhere on the fairway in hole 13 and hole 1 which is disturbing
It’s very difficult to locate next holes (tee box) as there is little guidance on where to go next after finishing a hole. No signs no nothing very annoying

Amasing location super friendly personnel and members. Definitely the best place to play golf in London. All members are extremely easy-going and despite being a very exclusive club everyone is very approachable. Highly recommended if you work in the city and need a place to wind down.

This is my second visit. Last time it was good, this time it is in almost peak condition - just ready for the Club Championship.
The tees are immaculate. The fairways... I'd like to have a turf making machine as I could do with grass like that at home!(As good as carpet) Bunkers are really well sanded and looked after. The greens were running at 10.5 on the stimp, then it turned a little breezy - wow! Would say that as with most courses, players need to learn what a pitchmark repairer is.
Be good to play this course more regularly, but it's a long way from Luton!
I'd like an invite to next year

A golf course with a royal status. Wasn't the longest or the most challenging course that I played so far, but it very well maintained.
Has a classic club house that server fantastic food. Probably give higher recommend to the restaurant than the course.😅
It's a been there done that course, as it's not easily accessible. (Private course)
