Four of us went for a meal at chequered skipper
3 meals were very good , however mine was not
Fish was sprinkled with salt,? and chips were Very greasy, not triple cooked ! The chaps did say more VEG would be nice , just 2 soft stem broccoli was it !
We waited 1 hour and 20 mins for meal , we were given complimentary drinks , pub was busy
And had chap playing guitar which was lovely,
The biggest gripe I have is the pub was Very COLD. eating with your coat on is not acceptable
Unfortunately we won't be going back .
Curtains would help, or internal glazing.

After a very disappointing reservation at The George in Oundle we sought a nicer establishment locally and we were not disappointed. The staff kindly gave us a very last minute reservation on a Saturday evening. Then you once again!
We were welcomed warmly by several of the staff members and offered a choice of tables. The pub is immaculately presented throughout and beautifully situated.
The service was fantastic and the staff were amusing and couldn't do enough to help. Our meals were served swiftly and cooked to perfection. Should we return to oundle or the surrounding areas we would be sure

Good but should be better.
The Chequered Skipper is a family run pub and restaurant in the village of Ashton. The setting is lovely but unfortunately the food didn’t match the atmosphere.
I ordered a gluten free cheese burger; my wife ordered fish and chips with salad. Unfortunately when the food arrived my wife’s salad looked and tasted like it was made sometime yesterday or maybe the day before and my “gluten free” cheese burger was a cheese burger without the bun. I didn’t order a burger without the bun; I ordered a gluten free burger and they are not the same thing.

Ella, our waitress, couldn't have been more welcoming. She made our visit even nicer with her sunny disposition. The ingredients and menu were first rate but the execution on the night we went was just slightly lacking. I'm sure that it is usually amazing but my Barley Risotto was a little salty and the watercress garnish was yellowing. And some elements on my plate were cooler than others. We went on a particularly cool evening and as the first guests in the restaurant we found the room a little chilly. I'm sure that later in the evening it would probably have warmed up but I'll wear something
