In 1896 Manchester silk merchant William Gaddum purchased four plots of farmland for the purpose of building a summer house in the Lake District for his family. A local Architect named Dan Gibson was appointed to design the Arts and Craft style house and Thomas Mawson, a Landscape Gardener, worked alongside him designing the formal gardens.
When planning your visit to The Gaddum why not discover some of the fantastic things on offer here at Brockhole and turn your experience into a true taste of the Lake District? We are incredibly proud to be right at the heart of the Lake District National Park, a new UNESCO World Heritage site.

Piquant and rich in character with an elegant flowery bouquet that mirrors Brockhole estate in all its beauty. A solid African leaf with assam golden tips. Bold and strong. A true gem. This South-African blend of rooibos, sandlewood, red currents and flowers gives this blend a bright orange, woody note.
Our Afternoon Tea features indulgent ptisserie, hand-crafted finger sandwiches and scrumptious oven-fresh scones. Enjoy your Afternoon Tea served in the Garden Room or the Orangery, both overlooking our beautiful gardens and views of Lake Windermere and the Lakeland fells beyond. A hidden gem in Lake District.
The menu was great, the staff was lovely. The food was well-presented and well-priced and it offers much better value than most restaurants in Windemere or Ambleside. Our 3-course a la carte lunch menu with a glass cost £70, which can be easily cost £120+ in London.
The view from the restaurant is also phenomenal.
They only open until 4pm though. It can be a perfect dinner date.
Here are some photos.

This place is a gem, you want to come here for an unforgettable experience.
I will class it as fine dining but we walked in with sport attire with no question asked.
Few things to note: this place is hidden away from many visitors. Park at main car park, pay the fee (I will suggest 3 hours) then speak to the waitress about the car park.
The restaurant was tastefully decor with Edwardian design.
More importantly, the foods surprised us with layers of flavour and creativity, which you would find at high end restaurant. For the price we paid, it was a good deal.

This is the first time I've ever rated a restaurant on Google. I feel compelled to do so because of how wonderful our lunch was. The Gaddum is new and we stumbled upon it. It's both fancy and unpretentious at the same time. They bring you your drinks in the sitting room before taking you to your table when the food is ready. I had the ham and pea jumble and it was delightful; my mom was in heaven with the celeriac steak. All the ingredients were locally (or at least within Britain) sourced. And each meals was less than £13. One tip: do not confuse the restaurant with the cafe next door (which
