The village of Hartford can be traced back to the Doomsday Book of 1086, when the Manor was held by Gilbert de Venables, part of the Barony of Kinderton. Over the centuries the land of Hartford was divided up, with eleven families owning different areas. However by the 18th century Lord Delamere owned most of the village.
