Elmdon Nursery School
After 34 years of being privileged to offer Early Years education to the children of Ashtead and the surrounding areas, Hilary is retiring and therefore, sadly, Elmdon will be closing at the end of the Summer Term 2021. Elmdon Nursery School, for children aged 2 - 5 years old, occupies the whole of a specially converted bungalow.

It is bright, spacious and carefully equipped, with a welcoming, homely atmosphere. There is an attractive garden with both lawned and paved areas incorporating a sandpit, play house, climbing frames and a specially designated digging area/mud kitchen. The outside space is used as an additional 'classroom' for all areas of the curriculum.
Services
Elmdon operates structured sessions incorporating the 3 prime and 4 specific areas of learning as described in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Prime areas: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, and Physical Development.

We ensure that literacy and numeracy activities are planned so as to be accessible to a range of abilities and learning styles as firm foundations in these areas are so vital to the children's future education (and life!).However, there is a particular focus on Personal, Social and Emotional development at Elmdon.
It is very important that parents feel involved with their children's first experiences of education outside the home. We keep parents informed of termly topics and weekly projects via email and the parents' notice board. Each child has a Home/School book in which group teachers write a brief summary of the children's activities on a daily basis.
Children are allocated to a group when starting at Elmdon. Group teachers work to form close bonds with the children in their groups and are responsible for keeping parents informed of activities they have enjoyed on a daily basis in the Home/School book. They also maintain progress records in the children's Learning Journeys.
There are quotes from our most recent Ofsted report on other pages of the website but the following comments from parents and children past and present mean even more to us. The relationship and trust that you yourself and all your staff show shines through and we as parents knew this would be the perfect place for a very quiet and sensitive boy.'
