We enjoyed our evening here, the food was lovely and the service excellent and authentic. I had to score the restaurant only one star as in discussion with our waiter, when paying our bill, we discovered that the tip included in our bill does not go to the wonderful servers but instead to the owner of the restaurant. I’m incredibly against this practice. When I leave a tip, I expect the waiter/waitress to actually receive it (and hopefully shared with kitchen!) Not to mention… isn’t it illegal? Lots of restaurants taken to court over this. Our server mentioned we were one of the few people

Visited twice over the weekend. First visit inspired us to return for dinner. Glad we did. Food was terrific and a good selection of beers. Weather was kind so we were able to sit outside.
Very pleasant surroundings and efficient staff, the minor misunderstanding with our order was rectified very quickly. Next time we're in the area we'll be sure to return. Thank you.

I love the food here, and the welcome is warm. When I want something well cooked, tasty and honest - and, let's face it, a bit French - this is my recommendation. Booking is advisable as there are a limited number of tables, although there are private rooms for larger parties. In summer you can eat outside, if the noise of the motorway nearby doesn't bother you (it is a constant rumble which some might find off-putting). There's a safe little children's play area with a slide, and there are lovely walks around Ayot Green and Brocket Hall golf course on the doorstep.

Went here for Sunday lunch today. This is tucked away just off the A1(M) in the little hamlet of Ayot St Peter. It is a picturesque little pub with an excellent French restaurant attached (which also serves rosbif on a Sunday).
We arrived at a busy time and were given a drink at the bar whilst our tables were made ready. The staff were attentive...but stretched very thin, with what appeared to be two waiters and the manager serving the pub and the restaurant.
I started with the charcuterie plate, which was very good (though quite a lot of rocket and not quite enough of the olive tapenade), moved

Visiting on a Saturday, my date and I took a long Loooong walk around the countryside (try about 9 miles, ya'll) and decided to reward ourselves with a quick drink before heading back to London. He ordered a pint, I ordered a bloody mary. Cue my exit stage left to use the toliet.
Upon my return, the bartender grinned at me and said 'You'll never guess the secret ingredient.'
Now, I'm all for innovative cocktails, so I gamely took a giant swig.
My bloody mary...my beautiful, spicy, salty bloody mary....was sweet. Disgustingly sweet. I nearly spit it out.
