By providing ProAktive with a few simple details regarding the property in question, we'll be able to provide you with an accurate initial self build insurance quotation. Our self build insurance and site insurance coverage is suitable for all types of construction, including brick and block, timber frame, SIP panels, ICF, cob and many others.
A self built home offers many exciting possibilities but it also represents a significant investment in both time and money. The risks a property faces can differ depending on where it is built. An inner city property is more susceptible to theft and malicious damage. Generally a self build site will lack the security of a larger development so they can be targeted with materials and tools stolen.
Conversions and renovations are a great way to build a new home that combines existing architecture with modern features. From an insurance point of view however, there are risks to both your existing structure and the works you plan to complete - which is why you must take out conversion insurance or renovation insurance.
A common misconception is that your home insurance will cover you while you undertake your project. Most will exclude structural work and you may be left without cover for the existing structure, materials on site and the liability exposures. This is why arranging an insurance policy to cover your project is essential.
If you have purchased your land but aren't planning to start for a period it maybe more cost effective to look at land liability cover rather than full Self Build insurance. Self Build insurance may not be suitable if you haven't yet applied for planning for example and are in the process of organising quotes for your build as it will provide additional covers not yet required.
