Services
Like all Ofsted-registered childcare settings, Little Owls must follow a structure of learning, development and care for children from birth to 5 years. This is called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and it enables your child to learn through a range of activities and prepare them for success with the primary school curriculum.
Children are learning communication skills every day in every situation. They learn new words, and the difficult skill of taking turns in conversation by watching and listening to the people around them. Planning fine-motor, free play activities every day, to encourage good hand eye co-ordination e.g.
Expressive arts and design is fundamental to successful learning. Being creative enables children to make connections between one area of learning and another and so extend their understanding. Provide a wide range of creative opportunities, i.e. glue, paint, gloop, chalk crayons, string painting, candle painting, finger painting, collage materials, junk modeling etc.
Mathematical development depends on the children becoming confident and competent in learning and using key skills. This area of learning includes counting, sorting, matching, seeing patterns, making connections, working with numbers, shapes, space and measures. Number lines on the wall, using velcro, so enabling the children to re-arrange and order number lines.
Successful PSED is critical for all young children in all aspects of their lives, in order to give them the best opportunity for success in the other areas of learning. We want all our children to be valued members of the Pre-School and the wider community and to develop a strong self-image and positive self-esteem.
