It is the policy of the Board of Governors of Newmills Primary School that all pupils will receive their full entitlement under the Northern Ireland Curriculum and the school will go beyond that entitlement in areas where there are particular abilities among staff. We expect the best for and from every child, every member of staff and all who visit or use the school from an academic, social or personal standpoint.

In Newmills Primary School we aim to provide a welcoming, attractive and stimulating environment which supports pupils' learning and which celebrates their academic and non-academic achievements. Within this bright and cheerful environment it is the education of the whole child that is of paramount importance.
Services
The Governors are ultimately responsible for the overall management of the school. They are required to meet for a minimum of three times each year but in practice meet much more frequently than this. Fostering links with the local community and pursuing the objectives of Mutual Understanding. Under the Education Reform Order, the responsibility of governors for the curriculum i.e. what is taught in the school, has been increased.
Newmills Primary School operates a House System. Doras, Drumreagh, Farlough and Sessia are townlands surrounding the school and provide our House names. Each House has a specific colour: Doras (red), Drumreagh (green), Farlough (yellow) and Sessia (blue) making it easier for our younger pupils. Pupils become members of a House when they arrive in Primary 1 and we try to keep brothers and sisters together if possible.
Every month, each teacher selects children who deserve to be celebrated. Certificates are presented to children who have excelled in their class work, who try their best, who have demonstrated good manners, great kindness or have provided help and support to a classmate. The successful pupils also gain extra points for their house.
Our School Council has ten members. Two primary 7 pupils will represent P1/P2 and P2/P3 classes, whereas the other classes will elect their own representatives. Elections will take place during the first week of the autumn term. Throughout the year, class council meetings will be held providing an opportunity for pupils to offer suggestions on how to improve school life.
We offer a large variety of after school clubs and through these we promote a positive attitude to a healthy lifestyle. P4, P5, P6 and P7 pupils have various clubs which they can attend on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3pm - 4pm. This year we have Drama Club on a Thursday and the Friday Fun Club which gives the children time to participate in a variety of games / activities.
