Very disappointing. A group of 8, we went for afternoon tea, something we had done as a group monthly for a few years before the pandemic, including a few times to Sopwell.
The price has gone up, yet the quality of the food is lower. The quantity was poor, particularly of the sandwich portions. Tiny pots of jam and clotted cream which ran out quickly but, after asking a few times, they eventually brought an extra pot of cream and two of jam!
The little cakes were very good, and the only item that was supplied in adequate quantity.
The tea was weak and insipid, due to not enough leaves being

Attended a wedding at Sopwell House. The building and grounds were so much more beautiful than the photos online. We loved wandering around and finding more and more beautiful spots. The staff were all very friendly and couldn't do enough for us (we had two small children with us and they were quick to help us with their extra needs). There were some new staff being trained at the wedding, but they all did a great job. Lovely venue definitely worth visiting!

Went to Sopwell House for afternoon tea and wow what a delightful birthday treat! The place is amazing and very welcoming. We were shown to our table overlooking the gardens. The food came beautifully presented and was the most delicious selection of finger sandwiches and delicate cakes. The service from Francis was impeccable and nothing was too much trouble, making the visit feel special. I would highly recommend afternoon tea at Sopweĺl House, it was a pure delight!

Wife and I were treated to lunch in the Brasserie and as it was a treat I can't comment if the experience was value for money.
However the food and service were first class. As it was Sunday there were the usual Sunday roast options available along with a fish and a vegetarian offer on the menu. Starters and dessert equally as tasty.
I only have one minor criticism and this is me being picky but I would have preferred a linen napkin rather than the paper one that was on the place setting.
All in all a positive and delicious experience

I have been a guest at this hotel several times. Ot is set in a lovely location. The rooms we have stayed in are ok, verey small compared to hotel rooms in the US where we also have a home. The pool Spa is pretty good, yet teh pool is quite heavily chlorinated. The choices for dinner are reasonable, yet a little expoensive for a hotel NOT in London, breakfast is ok yet a lttle greasy, there are other NON Cooked choices as well. The hotel is clean, staff are polite, friendly and professional. Yet I feel for the prices they charge it could do with a little TLC Tender Loving Care. If you take

Posh indeed. A little over-priced and it seems as if they seat you in one of the particular rooms according to some nondescript "stature". The wait staff seemed a little overwhelmed despite being nice but the most pestering of things were the wasps that came in and were quite determined to have a part of the sweets.
Staff were innocuous to it.

Obviously seen better days. Has a pompous air in keeping with its history but is now worn and frayed. Over priced for what it is. Elevator not working. Price on the check in form is not the real room price. You have to pay in advance for your bar and restaurant bill at check-in. My room had fray linens, holes in the wall and huge dings in the bath tub. "Would you like to upgrade" scam is obviously well practiced. I remember when it was cool to stay there. I'm never going back. Not set up for American visitors: it's not British quirky and adorable. It's British I-don&apos

Some thing to know if you are a solo or business traveler-this is a little out of the way , so take a deep breath and enjoy the country air!
St. Albans is a terrific city with a nice selection of restaurants. Sopwell house has a terrific staff, a lovely spa and gym. I was here on business and had a small room but highly functional with a renovated new (small) bathroom.
This place does a great deal of business for weddings and Sunday tea. The food was very good as well, I mostly had salads - extremely fresh ingredients. Tasted like it was from the garden. The value for the price is definitely
