St Joseph's Primary School
This website aims to provide a taster of what life in our school is all about, as well as providing up to date information for our pupils, parents and wider community. At St Joseph's PS, Lisburn we pride ourselves on providing a happy, secure learning environment for all of our pupils so that the academic, emotional, social and spiritual needs of every child are developed to their full potential.
Services
St. Joseph's Primary School in Lisburn became a centurion school, in 2003 when we celebrated 100 years of delivering quality education in the Lisburn area. The school formally known as 'The Convent' was built in 1902 and the then bishop of Down and Connor diocese, Dr. Patrick Dorrian invited the Sacred Heart of Mary sisters from Beziers in France to establish a convent as early as 1870.
We educate children to look after their bodies when they are young. This involves physical activity and eating habits. At dinner time the children can enjoy a healthy dinner. Dinner costs 2.60 per day and should be ordered before midnight the night before using the school's cashless system 'Schoolmoney'.
Our school rules are place to protect children's rights and to clarify pupil responsibilities. Sometimes rights and responsibilities are ignored and someone gets hurt. This can be a minor incident - sorted out quickly or it can be serious and on-going - requiring investigation. Our aim is to provide a caring, loving and secure environment, involving all pupils, adults within the school community.
Cool kids need to chill out and that's the aim behind this 'Wrap Around' Child Care Service. The club takes place in the mornings from 8 am before school (Breakfast Club) and after school from 2pm until 5.30pm daily. It provides social and recreational activities to help children relax in a warm, caring, comfortable environment.
In St Joseph's we follow a play-based curriculum where we all learn in a fun and practical way. All our learning is topic based. We are involved in planning our learning. Every morning we have the opportunity to choose from a variety of both indoor and outdoor activities, such as role play, sand and water, construction or creative art.
