Turville school is a small country nursery, preschool and forest school for children aged between 3 months and 5 years old. Located in the picturesque village of Turville, we are nestled in the beautiful Chiltern Hills. 5 miles west of High Wycombe and 5 miles north of Henley-on-Thames, our hidden gem of a setting has a fantastic view of both the Vicar of Dibley church and the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang windmill.
We are a great team of friendly, passionate and enthusiastic childcare professionals who provide a stimulating and nurturing environment that is necessary for optimal growth and wellbeing. Our rooms run separate activities but we encourage an open and friendly extended-family atmosphere by having big group meals and designated play time all together.

My mummy drops me off at the nursery in the morning. When I come in, I take my shoes off and put my slippers on. I then go and find my peg to put my coat on. My mummy doesn't help me anymore now that I am a kite. My mummy waits for me sometimes to sit down at the table to have breakfast with my friends.
It is a type of outdoor education where children visit a woodland environment on a regular basis and can benefit greatly from the hands on learning opportunities presented there. In the forest children are able to explore and discover right from the very small to the large, e.g. A natural woodland environment is well resourced therefore children can follow their own lines of enquiry and interests through undirected play.
The child is the teacher and learner, the practitioner is the observer and facilitator and the environment is a cohesive whole that offers the fabric of the learning and teaching to all involved'. Forest School is a process that happens over a prolonged period of time, and this is what makes it a unique educational approach setting it apart from any other outdoor learning processes.
Every child is unique and is learning to be capable, resilient, confident and self-assured. Forest school activities are child-led allowing children to build confidence by informed decisions and trying new things. The flexibility and no time constraints allows children to achieve with a degree of challenge and encourages the perseverance that will help to build resilience.
Our children (owls and kites) have the use of our own on-site Forest school on a regular basis 1-2 times a week or more often (depending on the theme of the month). Each session will last at least 1.5-2 hours. Our babies do join us occasionally, e.g. if we are having a teddy bear picnic.
Before each lesson starts our practitioners will carry out the initial site risk assessment to make sure it is safe and secure and no major changes happened since the last visit that might cause problems. This is recorded and appropriate action is taken if necessary. It is important that the basic needs of our children are met before any higher learning can take place (Maslow's Hierarchy of needs).
