Services
Brother and sister, Duncan (Head Chef) and Rachel (Director of Marketing and Business Development). The Ardgowan Hotel is a 36 bedroom family-run, three star AA and Visit Scotland rated hotel in the heart of St Andrews. Our whole team is dedicated to providing a home away from home for every guest who walks through our doors.
He came to architecture through the family craft of wheel wrighting (repairing wooden wheels) rather than through academic study. Rae's lived at 59 South Street, where his crest can still be seen above the window. The house had been in his family since 1782. Although we don't know much about Rae's education we know he was an apprentice for his father, Walter Rae, before gaining more experience in Edinburgh.
Whether you've spent a day wandering the historic streets of St Andrews or have enjoyed a round on the golf course, you can come back to our St Andrews hotel rooms to put your feet up. After a hot shower you can head down to our AA Rosette awarded Playfair's Restaurant to sample one of our dishes which use fresh, local produce before retreating back to your room for the rest you need to prepare for the next day.
Within the hotel we have our AA Rosette restaurant, Playfair's which serves locally sourced, Scottish food. Unfortunately, due to social distancing we have a limited number of tables and cannot offer bar service. Tables within the restaurant are for people dining only. However, if you would like drinks in your room, we do offer drinks room service at no extra charge.
Golf has been played in St Andrews since the 1400s - 450 years before the R&A clubhouse was even constructed! The Ardgowan regularly plays host to golfing groups, as we are ideally located for the Old Course, the other St Andrews Links courses and the other 'hidden gem' courses dotted around the area.
