Highmore Hedgehogs Nursery
We hope that you find the information provided useful and that it will help to make starting nursery an enjoyable experience for both you and your child. We are based in Westfields Community Hall (overlooking the racecourse) and offer high quality and flexible childcare to all children, from the age of 18 months old, within the local community and beyond.

We aim to provide a safe, warm and welcoming environment, in which children can play, learn and develop. We believe that by offering a wide range of fun and stimulating activities, children have the opportunity to explore and investigate, use their imagination, make friends. Our parents are always welcome to come and spend time with us, join in our activities and find out more about what happens during our sessions.
Services
As a registered charity Hedgehogs is a non-profit making Nursery and is committed to providing high quality childcare that is affordable for all families. A very large, bright and airy playroom offers children plenty of space to play, learn and explore with a smaller room offering opportunities for focused activities or quiet time in smaller groups.
Our nursery aims to create an environment in which all children are safe and free from abuse or harm at all times. All members of staff (including students) are DBS checked and are required to attend regular Safeguarding Training.

The staff will respond to any suspicions of abuse promptly and appropriately by referring them to the designated manager, who will normally speak to the parent / carer in the first instance and may refer to Social Care if necessary. We also have a policy surrounding the use of mobile phones ans social networking sites that all staff agree to work to.
The Early Years Foundation Stage is a 'PLAY' - based curriculum that all children follow until the end of their reception year. At Highmore Hedgehogs, children have the opportunity to play indoors or outside (whatever the weather) and can freely move between the different environments. When your child starts at Hedgehogs, they begin another stage of the 'Learning Journey', that takes place throughout their life.
A wide range of activities, toys and resources are available throughout each session and children have the opportunity to make their own choices about what to play with. Play and learning takes place both indoors and outside, with staff on hand to support and encourage play and learning - either by joining in, adding to resources, or observing, to identify the next steps for each child's learning.
From the beginning of term after your child's 3rd birthday, they will be funded for 15 hours per week (during term time), through the Local Education Authority. These funded hours can be used at more than one Early Years Setting. If you wish your child to attend for more than 15 hours per week, additional fees will be charged at the appropriate hourly rate.
