A private, Montessori Day Nursery, owned and managed by qualified Montessori professionals. Maria Montessori developed her theory, understanding that children learn through choosing, trying and doing themselves. Using specifically developed equipment in a prepared environment guided by the Montessori teacher, leads to a confidence-building approach to learning.
The key principles are Independence, Observation, Following the Child and the Prepared Environment. We wish them every success for the future. Willow Park accepts children aged from 3 months up until school age. Children move to Hedgehogs the month following their second birthday and to Owls, the month after their third birthday.

Freedom of choice, within boundaries means children "like what they do", not, "do what they like". We implement a Montessori curriculum based on Maria Montessori's Philosophy of education and human development alongside the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. Montessori believed that children pass through "sensitive periods", a time when they are specifically ripe to learn and acquire certain skills.
The nursery is closed for 1 Staff Professional Development day per term and these vary depending on the term dates. Breakfast is available from 8am until 9am. Throughout the morning session, children have freedom of choice as well as the option to participate in a Planned Experience led by a staff member and access to the outdoor environment.
Maria Montessori believed that children learn by choosing, trying and doing for themselves. Within our prepared environment, we encourage children to engage with the routines of living. Using her specifically designed apparatus, many of which are didactic, in a prepared environment, guided by Montessori teachers who constantly observe the children and what they are interested in, leads to a confidence-building approach to learning.
We follow the Montessori approach by encouraging our youngest children to explore and investigate whilst being supported and encouraged by their teachers. We have an area for non-movers with bean bags, activity mats and stimulating toys, a quiet area where books are provided and stories are read, a large physical play area and space for messy play!
We continue to encourage the children to build upon their independence by working at their pace, to attempt to dress themselves, to serve themselves at mealtimes. The children are introduced to china crockery and glass tumblers and how to use them safely. They love nothing more than to clean a table, wash up or prepare snack.
