Set in the heart of the beautiful Dartmoor medieval village of South Zeal. A fabulous village stores, cafe and Post Office a few metres away. We have stunning views of The Dartmoor National Park yet only 5 minutes off the A30 to Cornwall and only 20 minutes from Exeter. From 2001 the beautiful building had begun to fall into a poor state of repair.
The oldest heritage inn in Devon and Cornwall and one of the most famous old coaching inns in the UK. The Neolithic Period Around 1000 years before Stonehenge was built, 5000 years ago, the Neolithic people of Dartmoor cut the massive 27 feet high South Zeal Menhir Standing Stone from granite, then rolled the stone weighing around 17 tons down into a wooded hillside where The Oxenham Arms is now located.
We offer a proper plated Sunday Lunch service (not a carvery) which is served in either our 1477 Bar, Standing Stone Snug, The Oak Dining Room, or The Monastery Restaurant also on the patio or in our gardens. Children are welcome if accompanied at all times by grown-ups and dogs on leads are welcome in our bar and gardens.
