The Ginger Bread Man Bakery was set up by Gareth Roberts (aka:The Ginger Bread Man) whose love of bread and baking began from a young age. Having completed a baking apprenticeship with Lee's Bakery at aged 16, he caught the baking bug. Gareth worked his way up to Sales Development and Production Manager and then naturally the next step was running his own bakery.
When the opportunity arose in 2012 to bake his own bread from the back of an old Lees Bakery shop at the Halfway, Walton -on-Thames Gareth jumped at the chance. For the next three years, he built up a strong wholesale customer base, including local shops, Cafes. Sandwich bars and canteens and has remained at the Halfway ever since.

We so wanted to like this place as we love to support independent bakeries. However, each of the three times we've been, the food has been average. The doughnuts are tastleless (despite being hefty) and the pastries are too greasy. Whenever we go into order, the staff also seem rather impatient whilst we browse for what to buy. Such a shame.

Wow! This bakery is AMAZING! Walked in early on a Saturday for a coffee and a snack. It was heaving, with a queue out the door and the sweet smell of freshly baked bread. It reminded me of a traditional French boulangerie. The coffee was delicious and the Pastel da nata was out of this world - crispy outside, moist inside and filled with the most delightful custard. I was also convicted to try a charcoal ciabatta - soft, fluffy and light. Excellent.
I am looking forward to my next trip to my local bakery and the lovely ladies who run it! Thanks all!

Nice little bakery. Great selection of fresh products, good price and friendly service. And to Ian Sharpling with his "honest review" - rating down a local business to the lowest of the low scores over one incident of one product is petty and mean. That you couldn't even let it lie, the fact you had to go write a review about a damn sausage roll shows you need to find something better to do with your time.
