Welcome to the Queenswood School website: I hope these pages give you a flavour of what a vibrant school this is.
As Head Teacher I have a passionate enthusiasm to drive forward my vision for the school: that Queenswood School provides not only an outstanding education for the children in our care but that we also help equip them to take up a useful place in society as confident, caring, thoughtful, thinking people - these children are society's future.

As a small school, we know and value every member of our school family. We have an open-door policy for parents and we recognise that their role in our partnership is essential. Our children are incredibly kind and thoughtful towards one another and these close relationships are the foundations of our happy school.
Children at Queenswood School leave their Reception class as increasingly confident and independent individuals; excited, curious and well-prepared to move on to the next stage of school life in Infants. The Infants' curriculum is based on an enhanced version of the National Curriculum: with our small class sizes and excellent teacher-pupil ratio our pupils thrive and gain confidence.
At Key Stage 2, the learning experiences continue with Reading, Spoken and Written English and Mathematics at the core of our work, although the children enjoy a very broad, balanced and enjoyable curriculum. French is included in the Junior curriculum, with each child having a weekly lesson. All children have access to laptops, classroom computers and interactive whiteboards to support and develop learning.
I am delighted to share with you our latest report from Ofsted (2019). The report identifies the high quality of education and the outstanding care that Queenswood offers. The school's mission statement is "to offer our children a balanced education in a quiet, caring environment in which they are able to reach their full potential, both academically and as people".

Both my children attended this fantastic little school. The confidence and breadth of knowledge they gained has held them in good stead to progress in their next stages of education. They can communicate with all people and are not shy or precocious, just well rounded individuals. I attribute this to their formative years at this school.

Queenswood helps to raise confident, well informed secure young people. Dont be fooled by thinking such a small place cannot give children the social experiences of other schools because the opposite is true. The children here play and interact with pupils across all year groups as well as engaging with adult staff and parents so effortlessly. Pupils have so much more opportunity to try new things here and it gives them the skills for seconday education to get off to a flying start wherever they go onto next.

Our children have attended Queenswood School (QS) since reception. We strongly recommend QS. Our children enjoy attending QS. We have found that QS offers a nurturing, family environment where everyone knows each. The class sizes are small. Our children have been encouraged to develop and explore their own interests and strengths, academic or… otherwise. QS is led by Mrs Tanner who is a very kind and caring headmistress. All members staff are dedicated and offer excellent pastoral care. QS has played a large part in shaping our children to grow into well-rounded and self-assured individuals

I have known Mrs Tanner ( the headteacher and proprietor of Queenswood) for many years since we studied together. I have always been impressed by her kindness, wit, intelligence and integrity. I have been equally impressed with her school from the very first day that I visited. I shouldn't really say 'her school' because it is quite clear that the school belongs to everyone who participates in it's daily life -staff, pupils and parents.
I was a primary teacher for 27 years and I know that the curriculum at Queenswood is as rigorous, vibrant and challenging as that in any state primary school.

Our daughter went to Queenswood and loved every minute of it. She got the foundation there to develop a great all round fantastic education. Whilst she passed the entrance exam for Heckmondwike Grammar she went to Wakefield Girls High School and did really well with her GCSE and A Level exam results. She has excepted a place at Goldsmith’s In… London - however she decided to take a gap year and has travelled to Fiji to teach English to the children in a small village for 4 weeks - living with a local family - she had a wonderful time and made friends from all around the world- she

“ This little light of Mine... I am going to let it shine” is the school anthem and it enables our children to be that light piercing through all darkness. The school provides the best enabling environment for little people to grow and develop to the best of their capabilities. A dedicated group of teachers and an extremely kind headteacher who… leads by example, are committed to making our children beautiful human beings trying to make a difference to the communities they live in - what else can we as parents ask for, in this world which needs more smiles, kindness and humility
