On completion of an LLB Honours degree and a Dip LP, Mark Thorley spent six years with Edinburgh firm Balfour & Manson, first as a trainee then a qualified assistant, specialising in reparation, family and criminal law. In 1992, he co-founded Blacklock Thorley Solicitors in Edinburgh, specialising in debt recovery, family, criminal and reparation law.
Jim Stephenson has been a solicitor since 1990 and his main area of practise is criminal law. In 2005, with Mark Thorley, he founded Thorley Stephenson. The firm currently has nine lawyers providing representation in the Scottish civil and criminal courts.
A solicitor advocate since 2002, and a member of the Society of Solicitor Advocates, Jim is also a founder member of Fortis Chambers, Scotland's first chamber comprised exclusively of Solicitor Advocates.He has contributed to a Law Society paper on the Carloway Report, expressing a view that if corroboration is to be abolished then it would not be safe for the Scottish Courts to rely on dock identification.

After graduating with a degree in History at Edinburgh University, he completed the accelerated LLB at Glasgow University attaining a Distinction. Euan has developed a reputation as a thorough and skilful practitioner and has quickly established himself as one of the brightest prospects on the criminal defence scene.
Since joining Thorley Stephenson as a Senior Associate in 2016, criminal solicitor David has become a Director of the firm. After graduating with a BA (Hons) Degree in Business Studies from Napier University, he obtained a Law Degree with Merit from University of Glasgow in 1999. Over the next 15 years, David worked as a criminal court solicitor for two law firms in the capital prior to joining Thorley Stephenson.

Stay far far away from these jokers that call themselves a law firm. I've had better service from Indian call centre scammers pretending to be working on behalf of Microsoft than I've had from this lot. I kid you not folks, if you're reading this review then please please please walk away from this company. They are absolutely terrible. You'll thank later for this piece of advice I can promise you. I used these solicitors when I was stuck in a custody dispute with me ex husband. From the very start they mis represented me in court. I was advised to go for contact with my son not residency. They lost evidence and did represent me very well at all. That was until Sarah Prentice took my case on. When she moved from thorley Stevenson to another firm I was contacted and told by a senior partner nyree that my solicitor was leaving and made out that I had to stay with this firm when clearly they could not handle the case. I contacted this firm of solicitors by email on a Monday seeking very basic legal assistance which I would have been paying for myself. Since no response was received by Thursday lunchtime I decided to give them a phone call. I was met with a recorded message which I decided was not much help. I then sent a further email asking for someone to contact me by 5:00om Friday. It is now approaching 7:00pm and I have received no response. Mark Thorley was fantastic. Excellent lawyer. Although, i would recommend anybody from their law team. It was quite a complex case and I interacted with a few of the lawyers at the firm. Each one was extremely professional and personable. They were concise and to the point in their advice and guided me through an extremely distressing case.
