Services
Grace and I are the owners and directors of CELT - Centre for English Language and have been running the language school since 1989. We are both qualified EFL teachers and have many years' experience teaching English abroad and in the UK. Originally from San Francisco, USA, Grace is our Director and started her teaching career in Italy.
At CELT, people are important. Our well-qualified and professional EFL teachers will personalise your learning experience using a flexible teaching approach and up-to-date materials. Our caring and friendly team are here to support you during your stay. Greg taught in Spain, France, and La Runion before returning to Wales to teach English at Cardiff University.
Our Adult Centre and administration offices are based in two adjacent Victorian properties built in 1882 which have been carefully restored and adapted to run our school. We are ideally situated within the main student area of the city and are only a short walk from Cardiff University, the main shopping area, and many local attractions including Cardiff Castle, the Millennium Stadium, and the National Museum of Wales.
At CELT, we understand English learners come from a variety of educational and cultural backgrounds and continually assess the individual needs of our students.
We put a special emphasis on improving the student's ability to communicate effectively through the use of pair and group work, role-play, guided class discussions, situational dialogues, etc. Homework is given regularly on all courses to help students revise and consolidate what is learnt during the lessons.Lessons are based on a mix of the latest textbooks and a wide range of supplementary resources chosen by our teaching team.

Studying abroad is an exciting thing to do but CELT also understands that it can make some students nervous as they don't know what to expect when studying and living in a different country. Two weeks before you leave your country to begin your course at CELT, we will send you a Welcome email. You can read the information we send in the email by looking at this example.

One of the best experiences in my existence. I was welcome at CELT with kindness,patience,professionality and tons of affection. Everyone was lovely,and I will always remember what Molly,Mike,Chen,Grace and James done for me. Was a wonderful joy and pleasure be able to attend the school. I miss them everyday! I wish I could return soon. Absolutely the best English school in Cardiff! And possibly in the UK. Worth every single penny.

I am from Thailand. I had a great experience from the first day I arrived in Cardiff. I was welcomed and well looked after by Greg and Grace in the Celt residence. I also have had great friendships and a warm welcome from all the teachers and staffs at Celt School. My English has improved a lot especially my listening and conversation skills. Before being a student at CELT, I couldn’t imagine that one day I’m going to love English. Today, after approximately two years, I can definitely say: I love English which was made possible thanks to the exceptional teachers who helped me during all my time at CELT, which wasn’t short. Last year, I was undecided whether to stay home or to be abroad. Eventually, I departed to Cardiff, and I have not felt regret ever since. Despite what the pandemic has impacted on, I spent almost half a year at CELT school, and it was the most remarkable period in my life. I have not felt dull. In fact, I was intensely satisfied. I was taught by gentle teachers and was treated by kind staff members, especially Chen and Molly. They helped me to boost my English in different ways. I highly recommend visiting or contacting them. Finally, I am proud to be one of their students.

I'm from Japan. I spent three and a half months at the school and also lived in the dormitory. I had a great time. I enjoyed the classes and it was a valuable experience.
After easing into the lockdown, the activities organised (tour around Cardiff Bay) were very memorable. If you are thinking of studying in Cardiff, I would recommend it.

Great school.! I've been there twice (in the under 18 school).perfect experience and awesome diversity in nationalities.Fantastic mix between studying and afternoon activities... undoubtedly welcoming staff and teachers. However, I hope they improve their " the academic experience" if I can say so. Don't get me wrong it's already good but not perfect

It was such a great experience to learn something new with the help of the teachers from CELT. I have never communicated that much in a foreign language before this trip to Cardiff. CELT school was really efficient to improve my English, especially IELTS course was really useful to prepare for my exam. CELT Residence in which I stayed was right next door to the school and close to the city centre, so in a perfect position! I met lots of wonderful people and students and all CELT staff was always very helpful when I needed it. I recommend this school. I had a fantastic experience here and Cardiff is a nice city to visit!
