Hello I'm James, I've been playing guitar for 15 years and have a degree in Music Production. I currently teach private electric & acoustic guitar lessons in Derby as well as local schools, I can travel to my students as well as teach from my home in Derby, DE23 8EB. I vary my teaching approach for each student, the core of my approach comes from showing you how the music is made, not just how to play it.

With a degree in music production and years of teaching experience I've refined and developed my teaching style to where I feel confident teaching anybody. I have a huge passion for music, composition, production and performance and believe that helps me teach my students to be confident, skilled guitar players.
I teach beginners to advanced on the electric & acoustic Guitar as well as Ukulele. I give my students a free lesson each time they book a block of 10 lessons, this acts as more of an incentive for the student and also saves you money! Of course you can just pay lesson by lesson too. Mainly I teach from home and would recommend traveling to me if possible as I have more resources available at my home.

James is a fantastic teacher and role model for our 11 year old boy, who has been learning guitar with him for just over a year now. Our son gets not only top class technical and theoretical knowledge from James, but is also getting an entire musical education, coming home inspired by all the classic bands and musicians that James has introduced him too. Our son is now confident and playing his guitar fluently. James is extremely patient and has gone out of his way to be very flexible re swapping lesson times / days when needed. You can tell he really loves music and has a passion for teaching

We moved from another guitar tutor to James as we were disappointed with the tuition being received by my son and we were so glad we did. He has brought my son on lots and has a good structured approach to teaching which gives us more confidence. James is a nice guy who is friendly and professional and willing to accommodate the needs of the pupil. Highly recommended.

I’ve been having lessons with James since mid February and even in lockdown am continuing with weekly Skype lessons. James is very patient and able to make learning to play acoustic guitar a very enjoyable experience. I feel I am definitely progressing well and the materials James provides are pitched at the right level for me whilst keeping it interesting. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.

James is a very punctual and consistent in his teaching, I have been taking with him for 2-3 months and has never missed a lesson and never been late, he is extremely reliable and very patient, he will always try different ways to teach and always adapts to situations which makes him a excellent teacher. I would recommend him to anyone who wishes to learn.
