Plymouth Sailing School was set up in 1957 and is one of the UK's longest established sea schools with only a couple of changes of owner, and a recent resurrection of our old RYA Training name of Plymouth Sailing School and Plymouth Powerboating. We are proud of our reputation for safety conscious fun and professionalism.

We hope that you can find the information you require on the website but if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call or send us an email; school@plymsail.co.uk.

Throughout our website we have tried to give enough information to enable you to get a good feel for the sort of course that you need, but we would like to discuss it with you before you commit yourself to anything. We will not try to sell you anything you do not need, but at the same time we do not want you to attempt something which you would not enjoy or would not benefit from.
The Lochin 33 is a workboat, commonly used as a dive boat or fishing charter boat. Before coming to Plymouth as our training boat in 2013, our Lochin 33 spent 15 years working as a Committee Boat in the Solent. She has many uses for charter, whether it's a support vessel, committee boat, media boat, or just exploring.
Talisman is a 'Halmatic H10' Pilot boat that we use a Training, Charter and Light Work boat. She is built by Halmatic/Vosper Thornycroft in Southampton in the 80's and the design is thought to have seen service on the African Coast as pilot boats. She is heavily built in GRP with a comfortable long wheelhouse that was extensively refitted along with the rest of the boat in 2020.
Feedback is taken seriously and is looked upon positively as a way to improve. Feedback forms will be offered to students when they finish a course and reviewed afterwards. An online version of the form is available if required. Feedback forms will be kept on file for 12 months after the course. STCW Certificates and any RYA certificates originally issued by ourselves can be replaced by us for an admin fee of 15.

I found the course to be highly educational and a lot of fun. The instructor was highly qualified, had many year sailing experience from all over the world and was very knowledgeable about all aspects of sailing. The yacht Cherry B was well equipped and fun to sail. We sailed in the waters close to Plymouth including Salcombe and the River Yealm.
