Services
Rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, the long-established, independent nursery built up a fantastic reputation, and had been open for over 27 years, with minimal staff turnover. Following its closure, sisters Lucy and Sophie Thropp who both worked as key workers as part of the Early Years' team opened their own independent Early Steps Nursery School in the centre of Heaton Mersey village - close to the East Didsbury and Parrswood borders.
The majority of our staff have worked together as as an early years' professional team for almost 30 years in the same setting (Early Years Nursery School, Didsbury which closed due to owner retirement at the end of Summer 2018). Many, now even have grandchildren of their own and and are every bit as energetic, dynamic and sharp as the younger professionals who form part of our Early Steps Nursery School team.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a play-based curriculum for children from birth to five years, which allows children to explore and learn in an environment that is secure and safe, yet challenging. At Early Steps we provide a broad range of stimulating play ideas and activities that allow and encourage children to learn and develop in each of the above areas.
The ladies at Early Steps Nursery School are just naturals. Our daughter couldn't stop talking about them when she came home, and how they'd help her climb, paint, draw, read, build sing - i.e. all the things we sadly can't do whilst at work! What we value most though, is seeing how she's built lovely, nurturing relationships with children who are both older and younger than her because they're taught in mixed age groups.

Early steps is a truly wonderful place, every staff member is so gentle and nurturing and they know our son so well. He is so happy there and he talks non stop about his friends, his teachers and the fun activities he has been enjoying which regularly include baking, yoga, crafts, games, gardening, outdoor play. We know when we drop him off that his day will be filled with exciting learning opportunities and most of all he will be in the safest and most caring hands.

We were anxious about putting our son into nursery, as our older daughter didn't have a particularly good time at another larger nursery. But we needn't have worried in the slightest with Early Steps. Whereas other nurseries only allow 1-2 days for settling, Early Steps were actively encouraging us and him to take as long as needed. Even when nursery reopened after lockdown they suggested we come at the weekend to get him used to the changes. This just shows that nothing is too much trouble, and that they go out of their way to make sure that the children are happy and comfortable.

In the time that our daughter has been at Early Steps, we have seen her social skills and intellegence grow and develop. The team are all warm and welcoming and alot of them have worked together for a number of years and have a great deal of experience. The food that the kids eat everyday is freshly prepared, healthy and tasty. We would have no hesitation in recommending Early Steps for anyone looking for a caring, warm and child development focused nursery.

This nursery, which both my children have gone to, is just such an amazing and special place. When looking around for nurseries you encounter numerous nurseries which you feel are run like big institutions, the staff are uniformed, and their daily interactions with the children are driven and measured by endless tick boxing activities and typically the staff turnover is very high. Early Steps is the polar opposite to this. It is a place where all the staff form genuine relationships and bonds with the children and are heavily invested and take tremendous pride in their individual development. The

If you are considering this nursery, you have stumbled upon a 'Gem'! This is not a new nursery as such, but the team from a wonderful private nursery that closed and the team have fought to stay together - after working together for decades! You and your child will be welcomed into their 'family'! The mixed ages means your child will learn to… socialise with older and younger children and their is a feeling of inclusivity as the children are not divided amongst the team but taught and cared for in the open plan layout. This is a nursery your child will love coming to, and you will hear wonderful
