French is a descendant of Vulgar (as opposed to Classical) Latin, the language spoken by the Romans who invaded Gaul in the first century BC.

The French dialect appeared around the ninth century and was a mix of Latin structure and vocabulary with Germanic and Celtic words. French as we now know it began to take shape in the seventeenth century, at the same time as the founding of the French Academy by Cardinal Richelieu in 1635. His aim was to retain the basic structure and the purity of the language and to resist all outside influences, particularly English!
Services
As a translation agency we specialise in French and Spanish translations. We understand the potential consequences if an original text loses anything in translation. At best, as many people including some major brands have discovered to their cost, it can be embarrassing; at worst, it can ruin a product launch with all the associated financial ramifications.
Rather than blindly translate documents in full - hundreds of pages - decide with your client (or sales team) which information is actually required. Translate only relevant sections of existing documents, or produce shorter documents in your own language and have these translated. Is the translation for internal use only or is it the key to unlocking those new markets you aspire to?
Paul really came up trumps when I was planning our recent trip abroad. My wife needed regular dialysis treatment and he was able to locate a convenient hospital and arrange all the necessary appointments (even following up with a 'phone call to confirm the appointment and reassure us both.) I didn't proceed in the end, but I was able to make that decision in full possession of all the facts thanks to an accurate and understandable translation.
