Our philosophy is broadly humanistic and we believe that all techniques and theories are limited and should never be used in ways that avoid or distort contactful relationship between client and counsellor or therapist. People are responsible for the decisions they make, how they think, feel and behave and can change these decisions.
Wealden College was founded in 1987 by its Principal, Joanna Beazley Richards and has an established track record of developing highly skilled people since that time. Our counselling training has been accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) since 1994.
Our TA Psychotherapy training is fully recognized by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), as well as all the national and international TA organisations (UKATA, EATA, ITAA).Located in the East Sussex town of Crowborough, our courses take place at 2 Quarry View in Whitehill Road. Our venue offers a relaxed and comfortable learning environment for all of our courses.

Established for over 30 years, Wealden Psychology Services offers professional psychology and psychotherapeutic services by Chartered Psychologists, UKCP and EMDR accredited psychotherapists, and counsellors who hold BACP accredited Diplomas. All our practitioners are in regular supervision, and in ongoing professional and personal development.

I studied TA psychotherapy at Wealden for 4 years and also completed additional trauma therapy training. Both training experiences were excellent. The tutors are experts in their field - they are very knowledgeable, supportive and friendly and as a result I loved my whole training experience. I have developed so much personally and professionally as a result of my training. I am very grateful for being provided with such a rich experience. Wealden kick-started a wonderful career change for me.

I studied TA Psychotherapy at Wealden Institute , and found my training to be exceptionally stimulating, thought provoking, and prepares you for the wonderful, rewarding, and challenging role as a therapist.
When I decided to train as a TA psychotherapist , I considered ,many things, and Wealden ticked all of the boxes. All of my tutors were highly skilled, and with many years of experience, and I can honestly say I received excellent support throughout my entire course of study.
My thanks go particularly to John and Joanna for their encouragement and belief in me.

I have been studying here for over 3 years. All my tutors have been outstanding with years of wisdom and experience. We have a great class and there is respect and a good morale with staff and students, it feels like home. Other reviews here seem to represent a very small percentage of unsatisfied students! The UKATA inspection in January 2020 stated that Wealden is a “beacon of training for TA in the South East”.

I would never advise anyone 'qualifying' here. You pay a lot of money and discover that they are not registered with any recognised exam board. I had a grievance about the exam and sadly discovered this. The printed 'certificate' (after thousands of pounds) is not recognised as a legitimate qualification due to it being awarded by no exam board.
Please do not be as naive as me and go to a recognised academic institute, where they will also accept funding (another red flag I missed, when you cant even get a loan to study there).
If in doubt call the BACP and ask.
