Honiton Bowling Club, in East Devon, has been in existence for almost 100 years. Our Centenary will be celebrated in 2021. The club was founded in 1921 and moved to its current site, in Streamers Meadows, Honiton, in 1930. The first mention, that we have found, of bowling in Honiton was in a newspaper article in 1916 which reports the formation of an informal club playing, by kind permission of the the headmaster, on Allhallows' Cricket Field.
If you are organising a bowls tour or just a short visit, then why not include Honiton Bowling Club in your itinerary. We can arrange both indoor and outdoor matches and have excellent catering facilities, with a Food Hygiene Rating of 5, (Very Good), and can provide anything from sandwiches to a two course meal all at very reasonable prices.
Honiton's outdoor lawn bowling green is able to take up to seven rinks, and is in use from mid April until mid- September. A team of members, led by a qualified greenkeeper, maintains the green in its excellent condition. During the outdoor bowling season we average about 60 friendly matches of various types, these are mostly mixed, against other local clubs and touring teams.
Want to try bowls then take advantage of our four free taster sessions with no obligation. These are available and can be booked for potential and existing members who may be struggling with their delivery, want to improve their game or increase head reading and team building skills, etc.

Your choice of lawn bowls will depend on many factors, and at the end of the day will boil down to personal preference and the requirements you have for how you play. These will include what position you play, where you play and how you play. There are a number of options available to you whether you play indoor or outdoor bowls.
Bowls is renowned for its high standard of sportsmanship and etiquette. Etiquette is not a direct part of the laws of the game but is no more than good manners and showing respect for your opponent. Don't keep your opponent waiting and arrive for matches in plenty of time, correctly dressed. Respect the bowler on the mat, do not have loud conversations and avoid doing anything that will distract.
