At the meeting, Mr James Black was appointed Chairman, Mr Allan as Hon Secretary and M J Black as Hon Treasurer. Bowling first took place at the Somerset County Cricket Club at an annual rent of 10, the green being maintained by the Cricket Club at the expense of the Bowling Club. In 1907, the Club erected a Pavilion at a cost of 8. 10s.
The Club offers free coaching sessions to get you started. We have a fully qualified coaching and instruction team who provide regular coaching clinics for both new and the more experienced bowlers. Bowls and bowling shoes are provided for coaching purposes. If you are new to bowls, it is worth knowing that it is one of the few sports that has no restriction on age or ability.
When it comes to bowling at Taunton, there are many options available to you. Whether you choose to come and play for fun or at a more competitive level there really is something for everyone. We have regular umbrella sessions where you can just turn up and play in a friendly environment. You could play in one of our many friendly matches that take place throughout the year both indoors and outside.

I am a member of Taunton Bowling Club, so my views are understandably biassed. BUT we all at our club, welcome visitors, whether players or spectators of all kinds, to one of the longest established bowls clubs in Somerset. Now that COVID 19 restrictions are being relaxed, come and see us. And, if you are curious about the attractions of the game, come along for a "tester" session or two, or three, with one of our accredited beginners instructors.
