W Bates & Son are one of the longest standing boatyards & marinas on the River Thames today, established years ago as "Taylor and Bates" building their first boats in the late 1800s. W Bates & Son was formed in 1934. During the war with over 150 employees, air sea rescue vessels, sea plane tenders and the like were built for the MOD.
Just after the war, the arrival of the famous and now classic Star Craft Boats went into production. W Bates & Son were the founding boat building company at the conception of the now London Boat Show, exhibiting a 25', 33' & 40' Star Craft in the "Marine Section" of the 1948 Motor Show in Olympia.

I've been searching for a very rare part for my original Bimini top for 6 months, Bates was the only person that had it and on-hand. Purchasing from Europe had 3 dollars added for shipping but got my part only 2 days later then anticipated if it was shipped in US. Perfect product, well packaged and reasonably priced. Don't hesitate, Bates is great!

We bought our first boat from Gavin and Tom in your Poole branch and couldn’t believe the service we received. Both have been so supportive and helpful as we feel our way through this new adventure. Nothing is… too much trouble for Gavin he always makes time to talk things through not feeling pressured or rushed, so knowledgable about the products. We have had a few little incidents since owning the boat and never made to feel silly or stupid. I can honestly say as a sales team they are the best you are made to feel special. They are such an asset to Bates and wouldn’t hesitate

We have just taken delivery of our first boat from Bates Wharf at Poole and would like to thank Gavin and Tom at Bates Wharf for their unswerving professionalism from start to finish. There was never a time when we felt that we were out of our depth and any and all of our questions were dealt with in a sympathetic and knowledgeable fashion. Having just bought and paid a boat from Gavin at your Poole office would recommend the professional approach from Gavin representing Bates Wharf. I had a choice of 2 companies to buy a boat from and it was like chalk and cheese. This is the 2nd boat I have bought from Bates Wharf Poole and would definitely recommend.
