Michael has been tuning and maintaining pianos for over 30 years. He has a vast knowledge and experience of all stringed keyboard instruments, ranging from classical concert tunings to making playable old pianos that have been neglected. He served an apprenticeship with Nigel Donovan, an award winning tuner / technician based in Northampton in the mid 1980's.

After qualifying he continued to run the business and workshop, with the addition of a large schools contract with the county's schools. Due to family reasons Michael moved to Yeovil, establishing his own tuning business, working full time in the area in 1990. This was achieved with a great deal of help and support from Compton Pianos, Sherborne.
Services
Michael tunes pianos, both grand and upright. He always tries to tune to concert pitch (A440) but will discuss with you if the piano needs extra tuning to bring it to pitch. He trained to tune pianos without the aid of an electronic tuning device but these machines have improved so much in recent years that he now uses one.
A straight forward tuning fee is 70 within a 10 mile radius of Yeovil. Beyond this there is a travel element which will add 7 to 10 depending on distance and time. Within this price Michael will carry out basic repairs and adjustments. Discounts are available if he can tune more than one piano on a visit.
He can occasionally put buyers and sellers in contact with each other, depending on the information he has. All piano sales enquiries are forwarded to Compton Pianos, Sherborne. They have a large showroom with a variety of makes and models such as; Yamaha, Kemble, Reid-Sohn etc.

They also sell accessories, piano stools, music stands, metronomes etc. Rosemary Mack, the owner, is very knowledgeable and will be able to advise you on any aspect of piano ownership.
