We are so grateful for the amazing support of the Herne Hill community and all of our regular customers, thank you!. Tamara has always had a passion for child literacy and opened Tales on Moon Lane while she was still teaching full-time.

She has judged the COSTA Children's book award, the UKLA book award and the Branford Boase book award and has appeared at Bath, Oxford, Just Imagine, Hay and Southwark Libraries festivals as an author and bookseller. Our lovely education manager has been at Tales on Moon Lane for over ten years, after a long teaching career.
As well as our vast range of books, we also stock Djeco activity packs, Jellycat toys, Klutz activity kits, Top Trumps, Tonies starter sets and story characters, gift cards and national book tokens. You can now browse a range of our products here on our website, and order to pay on collection at the shop.
The BA Children's Bookselling Group has announced Maddy Yip's Guide to Life by Sue Cheung as its Independent Booksellers' Children's Book of the Month for August. I was super excited to hear that Maddy Yip's Guide to Life was chosen as the Children's Book of the Month for August. I love our independent bookshops because they provide that extra mile personal service and unique community hub that you really won't find anywhere else.
Join the Summer of Reading with the Week Junior and unleash your superpowers! Read and review books to enter their competitions for the chance to win National Book Tokens. While The Herne Hill Kids' Lit Fest is still postponed you can still enjoy themed books and activities created by authors and illustrators.
The Herne Hill Kids' Lit Fest 2021 has had to be postponed (twice!) due to lockdown. But fret not - we have a wonderful festival programme ready to launch as soon as we're released. In the meantime, we hope you'll enjoy our Herne Hill Kids' Lit Fest Challenge, brought to you by a bevvy of exciting authors and illustrators.

The staff were very helpful but not overwhelming and left us to browse at our leisure. Reasonably priced too. Will be going back.

I Always used to go here to get the Phoenix comic! The staff are really nice and help you find the perfect books. Some of my favourite books have been from here. They have options from kids aged from 0 to around 13 ! For adults I wouldn't recommend as they are mostly for younger children but all in all a brilliant little shop. The one near catford is Also worth a visit.

I visited for a book launch for Mo O'Hara, and I was pleasantly welcomed. The book shoop is filled with children's books of a wide variety, with little trinkets or games you can buy as well, like crayons or top trumps cards. Very nice. It is also in a very nice area that is clean and has food restaurants, plus is friendly to families, so if you're having a day out it's easy just to nip inside and look at some books! Furthermore, the people working at the till were very kind and cheerful, which added to the ambience of the place. Would dearly recommend as a place to introduce young children to the

This is a great place to buy children's books. My sons love it here and can spend a long time picking what books are to come home with us. The school holiday events are also good and help bring books alive

I was really struggling with finding some good books for my 6 year old to read so I popped in to Tales on Moon Lane for some advice. The assistant was very knowledgeable and suggested 9 books. I only intended to buy 1 but bought all 9 (as a birthday present) as they all sounded excellent. And my daughter has loved them all. Highly recommend.

The best range of children's books available in South London. The highly imaginative window displays, never fail to draw me in. My favourite was the recent Maurice Sendak scene.
