Although we've made the hotel our home since 2007, the Melvich Hotel has been a favourite with water sportsmen since Victorian times. Overlooking the headland and a stone's throw from the excellent salmon fishing on the Halladale River, discerning fishermen, colonial visitors and minor royalty alike have been enjoying its warm hospitality since the 1800's - as you will read in the original guest books you can find in our resident's lounge.
Today, however, the beautiful north coast is even more attractive (and accessible) with world class surf breaks, fantastic climbing and walking nearby, salmon and trout fishing in the local lochs and rivers, not to mention the wide open beaches just waiting for exploration.

We stayed at the Melvich Hotel on our way round the NC500. The Hotel looks a little tired particularly at the entrance and reception but the owner was most welcoming to both us and our dogs. We had a compact double and it was indeed compact. Our friends had a larger twin room which was spacious. Both were clean and well presented with comfy beds. We did not have great expectations for food but it turned out to be excellent. Paid £100 for 1 night - 2 people. On arrival were told breakfast was only available between 0830 and 0900. I explained we were in the area for an event and had to leave at approx 8am. Was advised Chef could not do breakfast any earlier and they would leave out a continental which consisted of cereal, bread and butter , no jams and apple, oranges, bananas. Wont be back.

Relaxing, friendly, clean. Had a lovely night here enjoying the fabulous food and stunning views. Friendly, helpful team made the whole experience very relaxing and enjoyable. Lovely big room looking out at the Pentland Firth and we were lucky with the weather so could enjoy the view from the garden. Delicious dinner and breakfast with quick service and a great selection of local drinks to choose from. Would definitely recommend and will be back!
