Services
The Mackay Family who owned and ran the hotel into the 90s built the Upper Deck onto the then Scrabster Hotel in the late 60s. The Restaurant became famous locally for "the steak" which now enjoys a worldwide reputation! The secret dusting preparation of the meat and how it is flame grilled and then served are a closely guarded secret known only to a few!
It traces its origins and takes its name from the old viking language, when it was named THOR-SAA, which translated means Thunder River. This presumably refers to the wild wintry days, which can sometimes hit the North of Scotland, and we can only presume that the Vikings must have invaded this particular place on such a day.
The now famous "Popeye's" our lively public bar at the Ferry Inn boasts a unique and friendly atmosphere which offers a wide range of Ales, Lagers, Ciders, Wines and Spirits. Live football and other sporting events are regularly shown on 42 Plasma TVs making this a popular haunt for locals and tourists alike.
Uniquely situated at the foot of Holborn Head Cliffs, The Restaurant nestles spectacularly into the cliff face and commands unparalleled views over Thurso Bay and Scrabster Harbour. A truly magnificent location for this truly superb restaurant. Diners can feast on "The World Famous Upper Deck Steak" or indulge in some of the freshest fish and shellfish which is landed literally on our doorstep.
Idyllic views, opulent surroundings and a warm friendly welcome await you at The Ferry Inn, Scrabster. The end of the road. The last hotel on the A9. But by no means the least. Situated at the gateway to the Orkney Isles and with the spectacular scenery of the west coast leading to Cape Wrath.

The restaurant is very nice good setting. The food is not good although the presentation is good. The steak was very tough even though it was meant to be medium rare, it was pretty much medium. The salad had a lot of leaves which were already yellowing therefore shouldn't have gone on the plate. In speaking to the manager she said there was nothing she could do. Waiter needs more knowledge/training on service and drinks section. Visited Aug 20th 2021

Service and food quality was really good. Not invasive and good views over Scrabster Harbour.
I had a med-rare sirloin, it was cooked to perfection and those chunky chips did it loads of justice.
My other half had his steak visit the crematorium before landing in front of him. Its was seriously overcooked. As much to my dismay he thoroughly enjoyed it. (I actually thought he was going to incur lockjaw during his meal from chewing so much). On this note we will definitely be back again!

Very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend. Disclaimer: We think our waiter was new and probably on their very first shift. They were very respectful and polite throughout their service.
Positive comments: Got a seat by the window
Negative comments: 1) Waiter got our order wrong twice after repeating it twice 2) long wait for our food to arrive although the restaurant didn’t seem busy at all 3) salmon was flavorless and drowning in its own misery, even the leaves didn’t seem fresh
In order to improve: 1) Provide better training for new staff 2) fresher fish and produce 3) don’t express
