Prince Philip with Mike Mike Sztymiak (Borough Mayor) Pete Aldridge (Town Mayor) and Maggie Thornton (Curator) outside the Museum. You are welcome to spend time in the wonderful unspoiled seventeenth century building that is Tewkesbury Museum. Discover Tewkesbury's rich and diverse history through a collection which ranges from Roman remains through to wartime austerity.

Learn about notable Tewkesbury people like Antarctic explorer Raymond Priestley. Study the magnificent diorama of the Battle of Tewkesbury and the unique fairground model. The building itself is a time capsule. Restored by Abbey restorer Thomas Collins in the nineteenth century and donated to the town as a Museum by an 'anonymous gentleman' in the twentieth, it is unique, full of original features, eclectic and eccentric.
Services
This seventeenth century building is a treasure house of local history, housing an eclectic collection illustrating life in Tewkesbury from prehistory to the twentieth Century. There are unique galleries about travelling fairs, the Battle of Tewkesbury and local polar explorer Raymond Priestley alongside the story of the town and its people.
The Trustees of the Museum are local people freely giving their time and skills, for this wonderful community asset. The Town Council appoints up to four Trustees, not necessarily serving Councillors, and the Trustee body appoints the remainder. Trustees are also volunteers.

It's a hands-on role, but the primary responsibility is to manage the museum, setting standards of governance, its strategic direction and securing the funds to maintain solvency.Tewkesbury Museum wishes to strengthen its board of volunteer trustees. Do you have a few hours to spare every week, an interest in local history, and relevant skills or experience?
At Tewkesbury Museum we believe in Children having a fun museum experience. There are old fashioned Toys to play with. Colouring and Drawing, Dressing-up clothes and even a box of wooden building bricks for the very young. We have a very special Mouse Hunt for all ages with a prize for anyone who finds all the mice hiding in the Museum.
The Museum's collection holds objects, images and archives relating to Tewkesbury and its immediate surrounding areas from all periods of history, pre-historic to the present day. Every item we acquire for our collection is of relevance to the history of Tewkesbury and through our collection we tell and interpret the history of the town, its people, trades, buildings, institutions and of course, its battle.
On view also are the maquettes (models) which were the initial designs for the 'Arrivall' commemorative sculpture which graces the Stonehills roundabout on the town's southern boundary. The story of the Battle of Tewkesbury is complicated and hidden by legend. Our display tries to tell the story in a straightforward way, describe some of the context of the battle and the part it has played in the story of Tewkesbury.

Very interesting fairly small museum, but definitely worth a visit if in the area. Based over two floors, so not suitable for disabled access upstairs. Free museum, with donation box. Amazing miniature fairground set out upstairs, with really skilled workmanship and attention to detail.

Really enjoyed the king's and queens flip book, so easy to read and move through quickly.
Also the person on duty today was very personable and not a bit fased that I had actually become so engrossed that I overstayed my visit by 30mins after closing time so a very enjoyable visit to your free museum. So thank you for a pleasant time.

Very interesting, several novel topics like model fairground, huge Wars of Roses model and local person who in earlier like was part of Scott's Antarctic expedition but went on to do many other important things. Well labelled over 2 floors in old building, interesting in itself.

What an absolutely lovely little museum, with all sorts of delights ranging from a Roman skeleton to a hot cross bun made in 1832 (a bit past its sell-by date!) Really helpful and charming lady on the desk, and a fun mouse hunt for small children. A really worthwhile place to see.

A lovely old fashioned museum, housed in a beautiful Tutor building. The exhibits aim to take your through the often dramatic history of this small town and succeed wonderfully.
