The Commandery
Museums Worcestershire comprises three fantastic venues - The County Museum at Hartlebury Castle, Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum and the Commandery. The collections and exhibitions at our sites are many and varied, covering centuries of the county's history right up to the present day. Thousands of objects, including the historic buildings themselves, are brought to life through innovative exhibitions and events throughout the year.
Services
The hospital was built around a much earlier Saxon chapel dedicated to Saint Gudwal - which was located to the South of the present building. The building attributed to Saint Wulfstan was a monastic institution designed to act as a hospital. It seems to have been established with the needs of travellers in mind.
Museums Worcestershire cares for the museum collections of the city of Worcester and the county of Worcestershire, for the benefit of residents and visitors today and for future generations tomorrow. The Worcestershire County collection reflects the cultural history of a quintessentially rural English county.
We are pleased to be able to welcome you to the Commandery again. Encounter the past brought to life in a beautiful building with an 800 year history. Set in the heart of historic Worcester, The Commandery is most famous for being the Royalist Headquarters during the deciding battle of the English Civil War - the Battle of Worcester 1651.
Worcester residents can celebrate The Commandery's history all year with the Worcester Resident Pass - visit us for an entire year from only 5.50. The Commandery has seen a thousand years of Worcester's history unfold and has always been there for the people of Worcester as a place of shelter or learning.
Please email or call us to discuss the package details further commandery@museumsworcestershire.org.uk or call 01905 361821. If you are looking for a beautiful unique location with larger capacity than The Commandery can offer, you may wish to consider The Guildhall; a stunning historic venue in the heart of Worcester.

A lovely art gallery and museum, although quite a small collection, its quite nice for families.
They have a section of art from local artists aswell as a area about the Worcestershire regiment. Also to note is a children's activity room which my toddler enjoyed.

History of Worcester was detailed with lots of interesting historic artefacts to see. Also impressed that the lady who restored the seagull, so impressively, was from Ipswich like me!!

I love this place - it is pretty small, so if you have younger children it's a great introduction to the museum / gallery experience. I love the mix of history and art; there always seems to be something new to look at. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and there is always some level of interaction available with different exhibitions. I actually find it a pretty inspirational place to visit - I always leave wanting to attempt something artistic.

Upstars was the Titanic display, it had original artifacts donated by families of thoes who lost their lives, in addition to some items from the film.
There even had a short presentation showing how some rare unseen movie film of the Titanic was discovered including the footage.
It was awe inspiring it is free but I would recommend that a donation would not be unfair.
Highly recommended

A good place to visit to find out more about the history of Worcester. There are lots of different items in the museum from fossils to Worcestershire sauce memorabilia to a large area dedicated to the history of the local regiment. Some really interesting and sometimes bizarre items are there!
In normal times there is a dedicated craft area where children can try out different arts and crafts activities. On this occasion I visited the Titanic exhibition with a friend (well worth going for an hour) but in the past we have especially enjoyed the exhibitions more aimed at children.

We really enjoyed our visit, there are a lot of interesting exhibits- especially on the history of the city.
The one way system was a little confusing in places, but the staff controlled it well.
The staff were also very friendly, and told us the odd fact about some of the exhibits that weren't written anywhere which was a nice touch.

May The Toys Be With You ‘ is a captivating exhibition at Worcester Museum and Art Gallery . The exhibits, the explanations and the accompanying tablet activity were magnificent and captured my interest.
I was more enthralled than I had anticipated by the collectible vintage toy lines and promotional Star Wars material.
