Heath Barn Preschool
Staff use the key-person system well to work with parents and gain a thorough understanding of children's initial needs. This helps children to settle and they soon build warm relationships with staff. They enjoy working in small groups, where they frequently review their learning and celebrate their achievements.

Heath Barn Preschool has been established for over 45 years, and from it's early days in the Village Barn, is now located in the grounds of St Leonard's School, Heath and Reach. It is a registered charity and 'owned' by the parents/carers of the children who attend; a committee is formed from the parents/carers and assists with management of the group and fundraising/social events.
Services
The playgroup employs 2 early years teachers, 4 early years practitioners, an early years support worker and Finance Administrator. Each session is run by four staff members. She holds Early Years Teacher Status and a degree in early years. She is qualified to Level 4. Sarah has been part of the staff team since 2016 providing specific support, she is qualified to Level 3.
Heath Barn has been a parent committee group since its formation in the 1970's. The committee acts in a management role, similar to a school's governing body, and will be involved in decision making which affects the group and social/fundraising events. The day to day management of the group is the responsibility of the Preschool Manager and she will attend committee meetings to provide information and updates.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidelines, which childcare settings in England are required to follow, currently state that just one person with a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present or on outings.

This accreditation also ensures that everything learned during the Millie's Mark evaluation and assessment process is kept alive and in the forefront of our minds so that we are confident, ready and capable. With the Millie's Mark accreditation, you can be reassured that all of our childcare practitioners know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation.
Children learn best through their play, especially when supported by experienced and qualified staff. Our continuous provision supported by daily focussed activities, ensures that the children have many opportunities to learn and develop their skills.

The continuous provision which is always available to the children includes, mark making, numbers, shapes, role play, messy activities, literacy, construction and investigation/exploring. Alongside this, staff will plan individual activities which support specific areas of learning. One of our commitments to the children is to teach and encourage active, healthy living.
All children become funded the term after their third birthday with Universal Nursery Education Funding. This is for up to 15 hours per week, to a maximum of 570 hours a year over 38 weeks. We will provide you with the paperwork to secure this. Children under the age of 3, may be eligible for 2 year old funding, which is payable subject to certain criteria being met.
