I have hired vans from them more than once as they are competitively priced. The last time we had an issue and they were very supportive with assistance in the middle of the night. They really took ownership of the problem.

Always a good service from these guys. Competitive pricing and an ease to use. Only downside is no parking to leave your car whilst you hire, but can't hold that against them

Excellent firm. A lot less expensive than the big nationals and very helpful. Case in point - I'd forgotten to pay the Dart Charge and they got in touch quick enough to allow me to just pay the 3 each way. Had the same thing happen with Enterprise years ago and got stung for the full fine - plus a service charge!

Used them loads of times always been great. Clean vans easy pick up and drop off. Just be aware in the age of paperless you need two very recent letters to your address we did struggle to find 2 this time

Highly recommend, hired a van earlier this month, the whole experience was slick and easy. As long as you follow the instructions given and take the paperwork required when the booking is made you will be in and out in minutes. Will use again.

Always use them for conventions. Reliable and friendly. Are able to drop keys in after hours through letter box which is convenient when arriving back late. Note: no parking on site.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Good value for a quick cheap van hire. Don't go expecting a shiny new vehicle like with the big brands. the van I had had definitely seen better days and the brake lights came on, but it did what I needed and got the job done!

Disgusting dirty 7.5t lorry we hired. Ageing vehicle, should have been cleaned between uses particularly during this Covid Pandemic. Cup holders were sticky, breadcrumbs left everywhere, surprised there were no rodents in the cab!

I have used Chelmsford Van Hire six times since 2015 and I have mainly dealt with Keith – he can be a little abrupt at times, but he has been pleasant enough to me. His wife Debbie on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish – very abrupt, sarcastic to the point of being rude. The last time I hired a transit van was in October this year and I had the misfortune of dealing with her at the front desk when I picked up the van. She was unfriendly, short and snappy. My girlfriend made a booking for a Wednesday pick up. On Monday afternoon at 3p.m. she received a phonecall from the company asking why she hadn't collect the van. My girlfriend explained that the booking was for Wednesday (no confirmation email or text was sent from the company at the time of the booking the week before) and the company argued the booking, claimed they didn't have a vehicle for us on Wednesday and refused to give back the £65 already paid for the van. We paid for no service. Terrible experience, I will never hire from this company again.

Hired a 7.5t box truck for a day. Price was very fair and the truck was brilliant. All nice new vehicles. Staff friendly and helpful . I would recommend this company if you need to hire a van or truck

Firstly, take a minute to read all of the other 1* reviews from a number of other customers. There is a persistent and consistent theme about the two people that run this small company.
The company is run by Keith (the husband) and Debbie (the wife).
I emailed the company to enquire about hiring a Cargo. The email received back was professional enough, and Debbie told me that they would not "pencil in" a booking for a 7.5t Cargo as I was checking whether the truck was available, so that I can then make sure that all of my collection sellers were all available on the same day of the intended hiring

This company provides the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Do not use them. They provided absolutely no email communication in writing or on the phone about collection hours and when we missed their Sunday collection times (found on the website only, not in any communication direct with the customer) - they refused to refund or provide an alternative collection date/ time. When trying to have a civil conversation regarding this, I was met with the most unbelievable tone from the owner. Would not ever recommend using this company.

Have borrowed a van from Chelmsford van hire 3 times, and used smaller and larger vans. I cannot recommend these guys enough! They always have vans available last minute when I've needed it. They are always friendly, kind and helpful and I feel very reasonably priced in comparison with competitors. The last time I borrowed a very large van and we had a slight bump when manoeuvring a very narrow parking garage.

When we returned the van we told Keith (I think thats his name!?) and he was so kind and understanding and said not to worry about it. We had had such a stressful day moving house and for him and his family to be so forgiving really made our day much easier. Five stars to these guys. Very competitive prices and have a stock of about 50 vans to choose from. Rented an SWB Ford Van for 50 for the day. Its 45 per day Mon-Thurs.

Booked a van for a day for garage and garden clearance and couldn't be simpler. Ordered over the phone provided DL, NI and proof of address. Van was long wheel base Peugeot plenty of capacity and easy to drive. Excellent value for money and first class service. Highly recommend.

Hired a van for a few days that turned into 3 weeks! Gave me a good price. Very good friendly service. Had a cracked windscreen, which did cost something, but was dealt with a a fair way.

I've used this company four times now and haven't a bad word to say about them. The staff are friendly and helpful and always seem to go the extra mile to make sure that I have all that I need. I've done numerous trips to France using their vans and haven't had a single problem. The vans that I've been given have been clean, comfortable and almost brand new.

I've read some of the negative reviews here and I have no idea where they've been to, not the Chelmsford Van Hire that I know! I don't live in Chelmsford any more but I still travel to them to use their service, great prices, great vans and great staff. Why go anywhere else? The last time that I used them they allowed me to park my own car in their yard free of charge for a few days. If it's great service you are looking for, this is where you'll find it.

Keith was very helpful. I have previously used 7 years ago and was bit hesitant to use again with all the mix reviews. However I could not fault the service, they went above and beyond a usual van hire. Even supplier ratchet straps and blankets I definitely recommend them base on the service I've received this weekend and in the past.

Myself n Darryl picked up long wheel based transit 5pm last night.though end of day staff was great.supplied blankets. I thought in case was cold on night.lol.gave him a giggle on it anyway.they actually kindly put them in for my sofas we were moving. Spot on telling us re fuel etc, honest as well re any previous markings. Quite economical on fuel as well as covered a fair distance last night, and they even let us return van late at night.

Just picked up a LWB for the week. Great service from David and Nigel. Asked for bluetooth and aircon and they found me a van. It even has satnav as a bonus. No hasle with deposit, it's a pre auth on a card now. They don't take it unless you break it. AndyH (logged in as Jean) :-)

Hi, Been using Chelmsford Van Hire plus Driver for several years and will always go back to them when I need a van and a man! Very friendly service, easy to organise and all the staff are very professional and courteous. Charges are very reasonable. We have had several pieces of very delicate scientific equipment picked up by them and has always been delivered to us safely and undamaged. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.

Hired a tail lift Luton Van to move my parents just before Easter. Chelmsford Van Hire were the best value for money (I tried 3 companies), The staff were very helpful when booking the van and very helpful on the day of collection.
