We are a family run business established in 2000, based in the city centre and a 10 minute walk away from the train and bus stations. Limited parking is available by arrangement. Chelmsford Van Hire have a wide choice of vehicles ranging from small size vans upto 7.5 tonne tailift box lorries, including a flatbed tipper, 4*4, and a six seater four door crew cab MPV, there is also a small car available to hire, from just 25 per day.
Most vehicles can be hired on an hourly, daily or weekly basis in the U.K., we also cater for European hire. All vans come with breakdown cover and full insurance. In addition drivers are available for delivery/removal services.

I have used Chelmsford Van Hire six times since 2015 and I have mainly dealt with Keith – he can be a little abrupt at times, but he has been pleasant enough to me. His wife Debbie on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish – very abrupt, sarcastic to the point of being rude. The last time I hired a transit van was in October this year and I had the misfortune of dealing with her at the front desk when I picked up the van. She was unfriendly, short and snappy. My girlfriend made a booking for a Wednesday pick up. On Monday afternoon at 3p.m. she received a phonecall from the company asking why she hadn't collect the van. My girlfriend explained that the booking was for Wednesday (no confirmation email or text was sent from the company at the time of the booking the week before) and the company argued the booking, claimed they didn't have a vehicle for us on Wednesday and refused to give back the £65 already paid for the van. We paid for no service. Terrible experience, I will never hire from this company again.

Firstly, take a minute to read all of the other 1* reviews from a number of other customers. There is a persistent and consistent theme about the two people that run this small company.
The company is run by Keith (the husband) and Debbie (the wife).
I emailed the company to enquire about hiring a Cargo. The email received back was professional enough, and Debbie told me that they would not "pencil in" a booking for a 7.5t Cargo as I was checking whether the truck was available, so that I can then make sure that all of my collection sellers were all available on the same day of the intended hiring

This company provides the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Do not use them. They provided absolutely no email communication in writing or on the phone about collection hours and when we missed their Sunday collection times (found on the website only, not in any communication direct with the customer) - they refused to refund or provide an alternative collection date/ time. When trying to have a civil conversation regarding this, I was met with the most unbelievable tone from the owner. Would not ever recommend using this company.
