Smiths Auction Rooms were established in 1975 in the attractive market town of Newent near Gloucester. We have built up an excellent record as a small provincial saleroom offering high quality monthly sales of antiques and collectables. We strive to offer a friendly and welcoming approach to all our customers combined with a reputation for an efficient and professional service.
Newent is a delightful small country town nestled between the City of Gloucester and the Market Towns of Ross on Wye and Ledbury. The town has a range of traditional shops such as a bakery, greengrocers, butchers and several small independent shops for browsing. From Gloucester take the A40 and after one mile bear right at a clearly signed filter onto the B4215 Newent Road.
Our team of expert valuers and consultants can provide free pre-sale valuations and sales advice for all your antiques and collectables. This service is free of charge and without obligation. We can provide a certified inheritance tax valuation service for entire house contents or single items. Our valuers have had many years experience in valuations of this type and can give helpful advice and guidance at this difficult time.
Smiths of Newent estate and letting agents, situated in Gloucestershire, close to the border of South Herefordshire offer property for sale and rent in the area. A super auction house! The lots are well photographed and well-described, and when I emailed them with a query on one item's condition they responded the very next day. I won four fragile lots, which I asked them to pack and send - their packing quality was absolutely excellent and the amount they charged was far cheaper than any professional packing company. They also use an automated system that notified me of my parcel's expected arrival time.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

I bought two pairs of binoculars through an online Auction, based on a Condition report which stated "Lenses are very good". Well, it turned out one of the binoculars are unusable because the alignment (collimation) is way out, and it has visible black particles inside. Even a superficial look through them would have shown this. I was then told that the auctioneer cannot be held responsible. Fine, I understand but I thought the Condition report would at least be a good enough guideline. This was my first and last trial into "online auction room bidding". The auctioneers take about 30% commission

I was used to visiting for the live auctions, and have found the change to online bidding really useful and easy (via the Saleroom). Staff are helpful and the quality of lots seems to have gone up with the increased audience.

Have bought through Smiths Auctions twice now and all went well on both occasions. Nice people to deal with. As yet, though, have not sold anything through them, hence just the 4 stars.

The auctioneer, like the lady seated to his left in the mustard coloured cardy informed him to give the on-line bidders time to bid as on my screen for lot 491 I had the message of the winning bid @£42 and he still gave the room bidder the lot for £40, so if I was the seller the auction house have not got me the best price. also thesaleroom track bids so it would show through their records my bid was in time.
