The Koan Practice is a central London group of qualified and qualifying psychotherapists. The team is currently made up of twelve senior and over ten junior therapists, catering to a broad range of client needs. All of our senior therapists are fully qualified and accredited by major accreditation bodies in the UK.
For a long while those of us who were working as counsellors or psychotherapists in the NHS and charitable agencies realised something had gone wrong. Now everybody knows, except Jeremy Hunt! The auditors and accountants had won, and the space for proper clinical counselling, psychotherapy and psychoanalytic work was being constricted.
In many ways, we readily admit that words change emotions. A Hollywood movie can leave the audience in tears, or a politician's speech can inflame a crowd to the madness of genocide. A man can say 'I love you' and the woman can realise that he is the one. But we have to be careful. While we cherish the third, we know that the tears at a movie are a little fake, and that the politician's words can be a danger.
There are hundreds of psychotherapy models and schools of thought. In fact, there are over a thousand different named psychotherapies including minor variations. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy - the general term for types of talking therapywhere underlying problems are identified, explored and addressed over time.
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) exists to promote and maintain the profession of psychotherapy and the highest standards in the practice of psychotherapy. UKCP has the greatest majority of the reputable psychotherapy organisations in the United Kingdom as its members.

The majority of our therapists belong to the Psychodynamic section of UKCP but may be Members of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), British Psychological Society (BPS) and other organisations. Our therapists adhere to the Codes of Ethics and Practice of their own organisation, which are consistent with those of UKCP, BACP or BPS.

After my request for therapy was unsuccessfully processed 'very slowly and bureaucratically' by another provider, the Koan Practice was a breath of fresh air. Their admin. communication is excellent; efficient and clear, their assessment is personal, professional and kind, and their referral and payment system is fair and appropriate. They are a wonderful practice, highly recommended.

For nearly a year, I had a great experience with the Koan Practice. I was placed quickly with a therapist, and the practice always made me feel comfortable and frequently communicated with me. They made things seamless with a transition to virtual therapy during lockdown. Would highly recommend to others!

While up in London, a friend of mine needed urgent intervention, I was very pleased with the speed of the referral and how keen they were to help somebody who did not have English as their first language, would definitely recommend them.

This practice is a wonderful centre with excellent therapists. Their reduced cost scheme is so helpful and enabled me to seek help when I otherwise wouldn't have been able to.

Everyone I've worked with at Koan has been empathetic and knowledgeable. I was grateful to be able to start out on the reduced cost scheme when NHS provision was unavailable to me, and the sessions have certainly had a positive effect on my wellbeing. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I wholeheartedly recommend The Koan Practice and their practitioners. I used their services for several years and continue to reap the benefits daily. They are a highly professional, well-organised, multi-disciplinary team operating from a great location and offering real value for money.

The reduced cost therapy scheme at The Koan Practice helped me out in the most difficult period of my life and I was very happy to have support when I was in great difficulties, on a financial level as well as mental and so on. It was really good to see every week the same therapist to build trust, and I found that rather than a therapy we were co-creating the session, depending on what needed to be addressed. It took me few months to recover and I now feel much better and more confident. thanks so much
