I qualified as a registered general nurse in 1976 in Lincoln and moved to York in 1977 to undertake training to become a psychiatric nurse, I opened and became manager of The Dexters residential care home in 1985 and have continued to add to my skill set with Advanced Diplomas in Care, Human Relations and Reflexology.

Our residential care homes provide a therapeutic community setting, encouraging the development, wellbeing and independence of our residents, who have support available around the clock from a dedicated, passionate, skilled and experienced team of employees. Our residential services are designed for individuals who require higher levels of care and/or support.
Our approach is based on embracing the values of recovery and focusing on mental well-being. We do not see mental health problems as an "illness", and as aconsequence we do not see our clients as "patients". Recovery does not mean "to cure", it is about providing people with the skills to manage and enjoy their lives.
Amitola Communities provide bespoke mental health support packages in an independent living setting, particularly for those leaving care with ongoing mental health, physical and emotional support needs. From our experience in the sector it is clear that there are many adults who remain in services because they are stuck, as there is little adequate service provision in the community to afford a safe and effective step down placement.
