Bridging the gap between studio & industry, we occupy an increasingly rare position as a small British production pottery. We're renowned for our beautiful hand-made homewares & unique decorative accessories, with countless awards & pieces held in galleries & design collections around the world. Hand-made & painted in Sussex since 1793, each & every one of our pieces goes through a minimum of 10 hand processes before reaching the finished state.
Our designs feature a time-consuming 17th Century decorating technique, known variously as Faience, Majolica or Delft. We call it English Delftware. This unusual production process, combined with our beautiful colour palette & strong sculptural shapes create a look that is quintessentially Rye Pottery.

Rye Pottery is a contemporary design-led company in Sussex, England. Originally established in the late 1700's, we're a family-owned business producing unique hand-made homewares & decorative accessories. We're a classic artisan production business - a fusion of high art, design & expert craftsmanship.
Autumn 2020 - We are Open in Rye and as ever for Mail Order. Designed down to the last detail, every piece of Rye Pottery is hand-made & hand-painted here on the Kent & Sussex border in England. We use a complex and unusual process that takes time, and patience, but it's worth the wait. We've spent decades honing our mail order skills & ship all over the world.
Below you will see a growing collection of designs and decorations inspired by one of the most celebrated periods in Rye Pottery's past - the 1950s and 60s. Designs, shapes and decorations have been reworked and rejuvinated giving them a contemporary 21st Century feel.

Rye Pottery's hand-painted figures based on the pilgrims from Chaucer's renowned Canterbury Tales. The driving design influences for this collection are Neville Coghill's translation of Chaucer's original text and the few illustrations of the Pilgrims shown in the Ellesmere Manuscript. The colour palette centers on Cobalt Blue, Terracotta, earthy Browns & a soft Green.
Rye Pottery's English & Exotic Animals and Birds are carefully hand-made here in Britain using age-old techniques & then hand-decorated in Rye's distinctive soft majolica style. From hounds & owls to unicorns or zebras there's a piece here for many an animal lover. Available direct from us. A great pottery studio with much of the space used for finishing the pottery and windows allowing visitors to see the artists at work. Some great collections too, of the battle of Hastings and of the Canterbury Tales along with Sussex pigs, beautiful tableware and hand-painted tiles. If you're in Rye it's definitely worth a visit.

I cannot review the pottery itself as I have not been, but my mother in law has. She loves it and has a huge collection. I add items but via telephone. Really top notch pottery. No, it's not cheap, but who wants cheap? You get what you pay for. Beautiful animal figures, arrived well packaged, undamaged. Really helpful staff, what more do you want really? 5* Rye pottery
