I specialise in notarial services and have a number of years experience in dealing with a variety of documents to be used overseas. If you are conducting business or you are attending to a personal matter that involves an overseas element but are unable to go abroad and complete the necessary formalities you may be asked to sign documents before a notary public in this country.

We understand that getting your documents "apostilled" or "legalised" can be confusing time consuming and, if not completed correctly, expensive. The simple answer is different countries have different requirements that must be met before they will accept your documents. Many countries require that the identity and authority of the Notary Public is certified by the country or State in which they practise.

In order for your documents to be accepted in certain countries they may insist that, once notarised and then apostilled, your documents are subject to an additional level of verification in that they must go to the UK-based Embassy or consulate of the receiving country and verified.

This process is commonly known as legalisation and involves lodging your documents with that country's Embassy or consulate and having them counter-signed and stamped.Having your documents legalised can add considerable complexity to the process of getting your documents ready for sending overseas as all consulates and Embassies have different procedures and costs.
