A Notary is a qualified lawyer - a member of the third and oldest branch of the legal profession in the United Kingdom. He is appointed by the Court of Faculties of the Archbishop of Canterbury and is subject to regulation by the Master of the Faculties. The rules which affect Notaries are very similar to the rules which affect Solicitors.

Once you have been issued your notarial act by the Notary, the intended recipient of the document in the foreign country must decide whether to accept it or not. There are a number of different considerations for the recipient, such as whether the information provided is (or appears to be) accurate and consistent, whether the document and the notarial authentication are in the correct form, etc.

We appreciate that everyone is busy and coming in to see a Notary during the working day is an unwanted hassle. We offer weekend and after hours appointments at our Tooting offices for people with very busy schedules. We understand that some clients may have mobility issues due to illness and old age so we are also able to visit clients at their homes provided they are located within the Central, South and Southwest London areas.

A Notary Public is specialised in drafting and/or certifying Powers of Attorney. Where a person is unable to deal with their own affairs, a Power of Attorney allows individuals to give authority to another to carry out specific or general legal tasks on their behalf.

For example, where a person owns a plot of land or property abroad and is unable to carry out dealings (for example a sale) whilst outside of the country, he/she can give a family member (or other third party) authority, by way of a Power of Attorney to deal with those affairs on his/her behalf.
