STEPS Child and Family Psychology provides an innovative, comprehensive and person centred service. The service provides consultation, assessment, diagnosis and advice for parents and teachers who have concerns about a child or young person's development. Consultation is our starting point; we gather information from as many sources as is appropriate and the focus of our work is then agreed.
Assessment of learning, behaviour and/or emotional functioning follows, during which we aim to swiftly identify the primary problem; very often there may be more than one problem. Diagnosis follows consultation and assessment. Diagnosis provides a reason for a difficulty with learning or behaviour.

At STEPS Child and Family Psychology we seek to find effective and sustainable solutions to concerns. We keep possibilities open, we work respectfully and collaboratively and we often keep in touch long after our involvement. STEPS Child and Family Psychology is a partnership of two Psychologists, Ruth and Tony Waterhouse.
It is situated beside the main Wentworth public car park in Hexham on the pedestrian route which leads into Hallgate and the centre of the town. Whilst we predominantly work in the North of England, from the Scottish borders to Yorkshire, and from Cumbria to Newcastle, Tyneside and Teeside, we also work in independent schools in Europe and Norway.
