I am the guitar teacher and musician, Stephen Murrell. I run Guitar Lessons Camberley. Teaching is done privately from my home in Sandhurst near Camberley. I have previously taught the guitar for Wellington College, Bearwood College, Hampshire Music Services, Thames Valley University, Yamaha Music Schools and Berkshire Maestro's.

Whether you're completely new to playing the guitar, or have a few years of experience under your belt. I can offer structured and engaging guitar classes for people with any level of skill.
Guitars bought new from a factory floor are only set up to average specifications and different players require varying specifications. However, a well setup guitar is far, far more enjoyable, and usually easier to play. Getting it right is often down to the taste and style of the individual player.
When buying a guitar, if it is difficult to press the strings down due to a high action (strings high above the fret board), then ask me to do a guitar set up for you or put lighter guage strings on to make it easier to play. Another thing to remember is all guitars feel and sound differently according to the woods used in manufacture and neck widths.

Steve is such a great teacher. He is very kind and patient and you never feel rushed or judged. He’s is full of smiles and enthusiasm and really takes time to put you at ease when learning new things (when you might be feeling a little scared playing unfamiliar things in front of someone). There are many times when my fingers just won’t do what I want them to do and he will just tell me to take a deep breath, break things down and we’ll play things a section at a time until it starts to feel more natural. My 9 year old son started lessons with Steve a few months ago. He's really surprised us with how much his playing and confidence has improved and over such a short space of time. He even felt confident enough to enter a talent show at school recently - proudly playing one of his grade 1 pieces that he had been practising with Steve. Steve is patient and very encouraging and his communication with us from day 1 has been great. I would highly recommend!

Khan has been learning guitar with Steve and he thoroughly enjoys it. He finds him very easy to talk to and they have some funny moments together, which makes guitar more enjoyable. Even though he stopped playing for a while when the first lockdown was introduced, khan has picked the guitar up again and has since done his grade 1 and now working for grade 2. I would recommend Steve to anyone who would like to learn guitar, he’s a great teacher. Thanks Steve 😃

My daughter has been having Skype lessons with Steve during this Lockdown and it has worked really well! Steve is calm and methodical. He wants to know the type of songs relevant to her taste, and that she wants to learn, then provides the teaching, chords and technique to help her learn these and practice them. She already has several songs under her belt that she can play and has a sense of achievement after just a few lessons.
Would definitely recommend Steve to other budding guitarists!

I’ve had five lessons with Steve so far, and as pretty much a beginner, and probably one of his older students, I am really please with the progress I feel I’ve made already.
He has a patient, professional, friendly, and logical way of teaching, he’ll set you a challenge, that at first may seem a little daunting, but because of his knowledge and experience, are within your capabilities.
I would thoroughly recommend Steve to anyone wanting to play guitar to whatever level. If he can teach me he can teach anyone!

As a complete beginner I was looking for a teacher who could give me clear instruction and set structured homework. Steve asked how I wanted to learn and has been really great at providing me with interesting lessons and new techniques I had never heard of. We did all this via Zoom and it’s worked well. Already after 2 lessons I can play some interesting stuff, which amazes me! Thanks Steve.
