I have been playing guitar for over 25 years all over the world live and as a session musician. I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be a professional musician. My first guitar actually belonged to my mother, it was awful, the strings were so high off the fret board you could've grated your parmesan off them!
Hi folks, my name is Alex and I am your premium guitar tutor for the Guildford, Surrey and surrounding area. Every lesson is tailored to the individual student, capturing hard parts via video to be downloaded and studied at the students convenience and comfort later. Based in Guildford, Surrey I teach all styles; pop, rock, blues, Jazz, Classical to anyone from beginners to advanced students and to all age groups.
When I first started playing banjo I quickly realized how little there is out there to start as a complete beginner, then to an intermediate and finally an advanced level that was quick and easy to understand, for the non-musician, and like myself, the already play an instrument musician. Here at Guildford Banjo School learn how to play the banjo quickly and easily with fun lessons aimed at the individual playing style and taste of each student.
My real asset as a teacher is a genuine passion for the ukulele that I love to pass on to my students. I believe that playing music is one of the most special things and I take great pleasure in sharing this appreciation.

Alex is a great musician and teacher… awesome studio set up with a wealth of experience. I have been playing for years but wanted to shift some gears in my understanding of theory and technique. Alex is really helping join up lots of dots and reinvigorate my love of guitar by creating light bulb moments for me. Super nice guy, immensely talented, what more can you ask for?

I am new to the guitar although it is something I have wanted to do for some time. I got in touch with Alex and have had my first 6 lessons with him which I have thoroughly enjoyed. He keeps me motivated and knows my level as a beginner. I will be going back after the summer break for further lessons. I would highly recommend Alex for anyone wanting to start learning the guitar.

I started playing guitar quite a few years ago, and have picked it up and dropped it many times - never really getting to where I wanted to be. I've been having lessons with Alex for 6 months now and I am enjoying playing more than ever! Alex is so passionate about music, and inspires me to become a better player! I love that he asks for a list of your favourite songs, then masters every detail! Learning one of my all time favourite songs has kept me motivated - even through the normal frustrations of learning! Would highly recommend Alex to any level of player!

I have wanted to learn the ukulele for 3 years and try as I did to learn it myself, with my full time job and adulting ways, I was lacking motivation, commitment and understanding of the instrument itself. I LOVE working with a teacher to learn and I couldn't be happier with Alex. I look forward to our classes, I have been working with him for 3 months and I am going nowhere. He has such a fun way of teaching and although I've only done zoom classes (also how I do my Spanish classes and it doesn't cause any hindrence to the fun or learning) they are working perfectly so I can only imagine classes

I have absolutely no previous musical experience so learning to play the banjo was quite daunting! However, from the outset, Alex has made me feel extremely comfortable, planned all of my lessons around my own musical tastes and made learning to play such an enjoyable experience. I cannot recommend Alex enough whether you're a complete beginner or looking to improve your playing.

Alex is an outstanding teaching, demonstrating skill, kindness and a great sense of fun. Like many people, I’ve used lockdown as an opportunity to learn a new skill and have been ‘playing-ish’ the banjo since March 2020. In July I decided that professional help was needed. Since being tutored by Alex I’ve learned so much and even my son has noticed I’m progressing. The lessons are relaxed, encouraging, very clear and good fun. Alex made me feel relaxed and welcome as soon as I walked into his music room. I’m 50 and have started to try to learn ukulele, this was my first ever lesson. I came away feeling very positive with lots help and Alex sent me some videos of our lesson which helps me greatly. Had my second lesson and I can’t believe how quickly the lesson flies. when I feel I’m ready for my next lesson Alex has some drop in sessions that suit me perfectly. Makes learning fun and explains and demonstrates very well.

After a 20 year break from playing the guitar I turned to Alex for help and guidance. Alex listened to my needs and then tailored his teaching and advice. I then felt I needed a framework to my guitar "journey" but then, rather than simply agreeing to my direction, he helped me re-think my fundamental ideas and this is resulting in a happy voyage of musical discovery.
