Since DCL was formed by Phil Simmonds and Frank Bates the practice has established a solid client base across the retail, commercial, industrial and residential sectors. DCL prides itself on designing simple, sound, buildable structures that connect on a human scale with the building owners and users, by maximising site-specific modern methods of construction with cutting-edge innovation.
At DCL, we provide expert civil and structural engineering services in London and across the UK. We have particular expertise in challenging and multi-use sites where public access may be required to parts of the site during the work. We are experienced in the residential, commercial, historic, industrial, education and healthcare sectors.
In 2013 we significantly invested in developing the Barbican's Garden Room, Conservatory and Terrace. As well as renovating and refurbishing the existing infrastructure, we have increased the capacity of the venues. In particular, the addition of a staircase to the Terrace opens up these spaces for new uses, providing one of the world's most unusual and flexible networking spaces.
DCL has provided structural engineering services to redevelop the site of the former Nat West bank on fashionable Berkeley Square. Located in the heart of Mayfair on the eastern side of Berkeley Square, Berkeley Square House (built 1930s), was one of the first fully framed reinforced concrete buildings in London.

DCL have been commissioned by PMB Holdings, to provide civil, structural and geo-technical engineering for an extensive redevelopment of Berwick Street in the heart of London's Soho district.PMB Holdings entered a joint venture agreement with Westminster City Council in 2012. The scheme includes the regeneration of Hopkins Street and the Berwick Street Market, the introduction of new affordable family housing.
