Petersfield Museum
We are really excited to announce that following our major redevelopment, we are now open! Petersfield Museum is an independent charity that does not receive regular government or local authority funding. We therefore depend heavily upon the support of visitors who pay admission, to help with the on-going running costs of the Museum.

We are currently operating under certain conditions including timed entry slots, social distancing and overall limits on visitors in the Museum at any one time. Our primary aim is to keep our visitors, volunteers and staff safe. Fascinating insight into our town's history - especially the development of the archaeology on the Heath which we often pass!
Services
Welcome to Petersfield Museum, emerging proudly into the bright light of day after a stunning 4 million expansion and refurbishment. In 1999 the Petersfield Area Historical Society opened the doors of its museum in the former Courthouse where it displayed its social history collection. Thanks to the generous bequest of local solicitor Freddie Standfield, a professional Curator could be employed six years later.
The National Lottery Heritage funded project shows our buildings, exhibitions and programmes transformed as well as the addition of two new galleries in which we can take travelling exhibitions from national museums, a cafe and outdoor space in the courtyard, a new Edward Thomas Study Centre and much more.
We have made every effort to ensure that the site is accessible and friendly to all, but a certain point on the museum journey, wheelchair users will use an alternative route to enter the next stage of the Museum because of steps. Further guidance is available at the Welcome Desk or by contacting the Museum in advance.
Petersfield Museum is housed in the old Police Station and Courthouse on St Peter's Road in the centre of Petersfield. Petersfield is easily accessible via the A3 or the A272. Parking is available at the nearby pay and display car parks by Tesco or Waitrose supermarkets. Petersfield is easily accessible by rail, and the museum is only a 10 minute walk from Petersfield Station.
Here at Petersfield Museum we are always happy to welcome visiting groups to the Museum. Whether an organised coach trip, a stopping off point for cyclists or members of a specialist interest group we work hard to make sure you have the best experience. If you are planning a visit to the Museum for a group of 10 people or more we ask you to contact us in advance so we can make tailor your visit to your needs.

We had a great time at the Halloween party today. Some great crafts and messy play. The storytelling was brilliant too, all of the children were captivated. We had visited in the summer and the children were keen to revisit their favourite areas. Wonderful effort by the staff, we will definitely visit again.

We had a wonderful time at Petersfield Museum today. My 7 year old son was captivated but the history detectives trail, and we learnt so much about the history of the building and surrounding Petersfield. My… son was particularly interested (or should I say scared) of the police cells. The staff & volunteers were so kind and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend.

We took our 7 year old to the museum today and she absolutely loved it! She thoroughly enjoyed the history detectives trail and earnt herself a badge at the end. The staff were very helpful and made sure we got the most out of our visit. What an incredible transformation from the tiny museum I last visited before the move.

We had a very enjoyable time at the newly reopened museum. Lots of interesting items even for those not local. I particularly liked the fact that they still have the court room and police cells from the buildings previous life. Very pleasant, professional staff.

Tonight's Talk by Dr Kim Simpson about the Fallen Women in Jane Austin's novels and in other literature of the time was a fascinating insight into the treatment and portrayal of women who fell foul of the… conventions of that era. The many questions and comments from the large number of people who attended the Talk showed how interesting they found it as well.
