Services
Situated on the North West Coastline, we have been teaching horse riding lessons for over 70 years. Bringing horses and people together no matter what their age or ability, in order to share our passion and experience in all things equestrian. Whether you are a beginner, a seasoned rider or just wanting to get back into the saddle, we have a horse for you.
Riding, all riders will be fitted with appropriate head/footwear (The party person gets to wear the special birthday hat!) If beginners they will learn the ropes, if not, straight to the fun! Parties are normally held on Saturdays at 5:30-7pm, we can also hold them during school holidays and possibly other days if availability permits.
Each year we hold a number of special events as well as the usual holiday activities. These will be advertised a few weeks in advance both here on the website and at the stables, so keep your eyes peeled! Previous events have included the very popular Quiz night and BBQ, Western Day and last year our very special 70th Anniversary Party day was a huge success.
Each school holiday we host a selection of activities designed to cater for all ages and abilities. Please see the Activities page for a more detailed description of what each of them are. Occasionally more Activity Sessions can be organised if there is a demand for them. Let us know if you want something on a particular day as we may be able to set something up, especially if there is a small group of you.
I have been at Bowlers for over 30 years. I enjoy teaching all levels of riders and working with different horses, so I have my dream job! Marty, Max and Lincon are the horses I have at the moment. Marty is doing well competing in dressage and enjoys jumping, and Max who likes to go hacking and showing himself off when we go competing I have a black Labrador called Oak.

Mary ,who owns the riding school is such a lovely lady who adores all animals. Everyone who works there loves her and it shows in the whole atmosphere and the happiness you can see in the animals faces . lots… of young people come and learn how to look after horses properly. Mary is a real gem is deserves to be recognised for her services to the Formby community. 👏

Had my third lesson Friday with Loraine and I already can’t wait for my next. I feel that Loraine has already built my confidence back and taught me so much already. I rode in my young teens and recently wanted to get back into it after lock down, and so glad I did especially at bowlers riding school. All the staff are lovely, and the stables are fab. Thanks all xx

I was involved with horses from a very young age and loved every job, experience and of course every horse. Unfortunately I became unwell in 2005 and my mobility has been reduced significantly but the desire to be with horses has never gone away. I didn't realize that I was going on about being involved in some way with horses as much as I was until my wonderful husband went to Mary Bowlers and bought a private lesson for me for a Christmas present.. I was over the moon, and I have actually managed to have the greatest pleasure to have had my lesson, riding Toby and I am absolutely buzzing about

It was just fabulous
Took my 3yr old grand daughter on her birthday for a 15mins lesson
She really loved it
Dinky the pony was just so calm and patient
She trotted and did a few other moves
She listened to the girl that led Dinky
Then at the end she stabled Dinky put his bridle and saddle back in tack room and came home very happy with a rosette
