I have been a practising counsellor since 1989, and have built a wealth of professional experience both in my own practice and in a youth counselling service set in a multi-ethnic community. In 1998 I gained a Diploma in Humanistic Counselling at Roehampton Institute.
Feeling I needed more "tools in my toolbox", in 1999 I completed a Diploma in Brief Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy with Uncommon Knowledge, a hypnotherapy training organisation based in Brighton.I have diplomas in both Performance and Life Coaching from Newcastle College of Further Education.

Counselling is a way of helping you to look at a personal problem, understand it better and reach some decisions about how you might deal with it. A counsellor listens carefully to your worries, tries to understand what you are saying (and sometimes hears what you are not saying) and helps you to develop skills and resources to work out your own solutions.
Thanks to Hollywood films and stage hypnotists, there are a lot of misconceptions about hypnosis and its use. Most people don't realise that hypnotic trance is a natural state we all experience on a daily basis - not dissimilar to daydreaming - and that during the process the client remains completely conscious and in full control at all times.
Coaching is not concerned with what has happened in the past. It is totally focused on the present and where the client wants to be in the future. A skilled coach will not advise or instruct a client, but will help him to identify his own answers to a given situation and accept personal responsibility for taking the appropriate action to resolve that situation.
Are these some of the words you use to describe how you are feeling right now? Do you find yourself unable to relax, your head spinning or feeling like it's about to explode? Thoughts going round and round in your mind and your muscles becoming more and more tense with every revolution. If any or all of these words and phrases seem familiar to you, you are almost certainly suffering from stress.
Do you need to take control of your weight and develop a new, healthy relationship with food?. Do you find at certain times of the day your will power disappears and you can't resist your favourite snacks? For many people this is the evening, after their main meal when they should be feeling full and satisfied.
