My daughter absolutely adores this school. It's a friendly, safe, magical environment and the absolute antithesis to the stressful, crowded experience of most state schools. We're so pleased we're able to send our daughter here.
Also, just to mention that the negative reviews here are talking about Canterbury Steiner School, not New School Canterbury. The school site may be the same but the way they're managed couldn't be more different.

Canterbury Steiner School has had 3 different leaders or Heads in three years. The discussion regarding Heads in a Steiner school is for another time.
Pupil numbers are at an all time low, 53 when I last checked.
Classes have merged. Class 1 and 2 are now one class and so on.
The upper school is shut so no GCSEs. The official line is the "upper school is in hibernation" !!!!!
Almost all of the good teachers have left.
There are staff members currently at the school who actively trawl web sites like google in an effort to promote the school. Their posts often contain untruths and serve to distort

I'm so pleased we chose this school. Our 12 year old is really thriving academically and socially. The teaching is excellent and the kids enjoy their learning. I'd recommend anyone considering the school to visit - speak to the staff, meet the students and parents and decide for yourself. Its really the only way to get a proper feel for a school.

As an ex-pupil I have happy and fond memories of my time at the Steiner school, I have nothing but gratitude for my Waldorf education and it has has shaped my future as well as further enhanced my higher educational studies. It fuels academic as well as creative direction for children and encourages the ideology and adventure of learning in to adulthood, I can not praise it's educational ethos enough.

It has been wonderful to see my grandson grow in confidence, develop a passion for learning and a love of school. He jumps out of bed eager to get there and its a struggle each day to get him to leave to come home.

My son just completed his GCSE's at Canterbury Steiner School. The support he felt from the school was of a standard not offered at other schools. Small class sizes and constant collaborative communication between the teachers, students and families-- perfect. Never were results put above the emotional health of the students. The school is inspiring and in a stunning location. It just simply meets the needs of each student when they are young and into young adulthood. The group in his class were very close knit and so supportive of each other. I am so glad we found CSS these past few years after

New School or sinking ship?
In 2012 A planning application was made by this school to develop a disused local hospital. The council sold the site to the school for a nominal £1.
In support of the application, it was stated that the current site will need to be refurbished soon and the funds weren't available. In short, the current site was to be sold to developers and the proceeds were to be spent developing the new site.
Now, pupil numbers have dropped dramatically, most of the good teachers have left, classes have merged and the upper school is closing in June 2016.
So, pupil numbers falling

With two children having gone through state school education, one grammar, one comprehensive, I only wish I had found Canterbury Steiner school sooner. My daughter wasn't ready for reception and was quickly failing the benchmarks set. Ear problems meant she couldn't hear the phonics and was struggling to keep up, schools suggestion was grommets! After a difficult year we found the Canterbury Steiner kindergarten and haven't looked back. She is now 8 just started to read and is already at the same level as her peers in primary school who started learning to read 4 years ago! A school with good ethics

I was so impressed by the school! I have heard mixed opinions, especially online but having met the staff and some of the pupils I have to say it is by far the most impressive, caring, gentle and progressive school environment that I have visited in Kent.

The most magnificent, caring and welcoming environment a child could wish for. Our son's independence, confidence and awareness of nature that has blossomed from his experience at the Kindergarten is amazing. The struggle to get him out the door in the morning has long gone - eager to be first there, to enjoy the friendships, crafts, cooking, woodland play and story time. I can not imagine our life now without this school. Its a truly magical experience in a safe and beautiful setting. We have the privilege of a walk to school through the fields and over styles, what better way to set a child up

Upper school closed from sept 2016.
We removed our older two girls a few years ago due to the practices at Canterbury Steiner School. We left our youngest daughter at the school more for child minding purposes than schooling purposes.
Very recently we have decided to completely leave the school because classes have merged ( class 1 and 2 are now a single class and so on up the school) and the upper school is closed from next year. The information about the upper school is on the schools web site but you have to look hard and read between the lines to find it!!
